Good food, helpful staff, I still suck at this…. I saw some good ratings so I said what the heck. The cashier really seemed to know what to do. At first she seemed a little bossy but she has been there for 8 years and after a few minutes I realized she was just in her zone and was nice and helpful. When I came up with the first bowl she recommended I go back and load up some more. I had forgotten but it does cook down a bit. She didn’t have to give me a heads up but she did and I was grateful. And when it got busy she grabbed some of those big chopsticks and handled it. I was impressed. The food area was clean and the customers really moved through the line quickly so I guess they have some pretty serious regulars. This one lady piled her bowl so high it was incredible! It takes real skill to do what she did.It was $9 and a few cents and I got wontons, a huge carton of bbq, a potsticker and a cheese rangoon, soup and rice. She bagged my order with potsticker sauce, sweet and sour, soy sauce, spicy mustard, napkins, fork, spoon. Definitely feel like I got my money’s worth. Very thorough. Here’s where the breakdown begins…I could taste that the bbq ingredients were fresh and good. The meat was good quality. It was NOT that cheap stringy fatty meat at some places. I just suck at putting together something that is tasty. Now, I went to culinary school and I consider myself to be pretty knowledgeable when it comes to flavor but I am just daunted by Mongolian BBQ. I am also usually a pretty complex guy when it comes to food and a more geeky foodie than most. I try to put together flavors that are complimentary but it just doesn’t work out. It either tastes too bland or it tastes like there is too much going on like when I used to mix all the different sodas together at the coke machine(Yuck). Why did we do that anyway?Okay, now about the rest. I don’t really like fried wontons but these were the best I’ve had. The soup was good, not incredible. The potsticker was decent and cheese rangoon was fun. The rice however was not very good. They need a new recipe for that. It kinda tasted stale and too salty and lacked flavor complexity.I will go again and would bring some friends but I’m definitely gonna do some searches on good sauce combination online first.
One of the best!. This is one of the best Mongolian BBQ’s I’ve ever been to, and I love Mongolian BBQ. The meats (pork, chicken, beef, and lamb) and veggie selection are pretty standard. The sauce selection was awesome. The ones I can remember now are: black bean, orange, teriyaki, sweet and sour, kung pau, seafood, and house. They also have the flavor enhancers like: cooking wine/oil, vinegar, sugar water, chili oil, etc. They have some suggested combinations for different flavors if you’re new to the concept, or you can go wild on your own. They also have a bunch of different spice shakers and a couple hot sauces to add in. I was pleased to see the cooks didn’t add very much water while cooking so the food really absorbed the flavors (some places add way too much and wash away all the sauce/flavor).For $8.99, the meal included unlimited trips to the grill and came with choice of a side soup or salad (both were good), fried or steamed rice, and potstickers, crab rangoons, and wonton chips with dipping sauces. Waters free, but other drinks cost a little extra. The waiting staff was super friendly and always around to fill up water glasses, etc. The place is fairly small seating wise, and they might rearrange the tables to help get people seated. You may have to wait a bit for tables to open up, but it’s totally worth the wait!My favorite sauce: 1 black bean1 orange2 sweet and sour2 vinegar1/2 chili oilsriracha chili sauce and garlic pasteTip: if you want noodles, add them on top at the very end!
The hostess acted like we were an inconvenience. Then she wanted us to sit with some weird table configuration in order to have a high chair. She was very rude. We left before we even tried the food. We will not go back.
Good Mongolian even has to-go!. THe sauces are my favorite, a lot more flavorful than the Mongolian BBQ on Greenback Ln in Citrus Heights. The service is always good, they always bring refills on drinks before your drink is empty, and very nice!
