I ate lunch here today after hiking nearby -ordered the steak sandwich which was 1 of the things the server suggested. The meat was at best adequate -certainly not generous. It was moist and somewhat tender, but had gristle in every bite which made it hard to eat -very laborious. The roll it was served on was fresh and good to very good. The fries were somewhat crispy as ordered and fresh, but like the meat were a bit skimpy. In fact, one of the smallest servings I’ve had in some time. On top of that, it’s noisy even when there is no music. For $12 plus drink it was no bargain. I will not be back nor do I recommend. I’d rather have a frozen pizza. The food is not the draw at this place. Some people confuse atmosphere with the food, but I cant eat that. Then again…beware of owners posting reviews.
My father had been to this funky old place many times over the years, so I was looking forward to lunch here. The food was good, nice atmosphere, the decor is great and the staff are friendly. Their signature item is chili, but the day we went the chili wasn’t ready due to a propane issue. So I’ll have to try it next time.
We came in after backpacking in Joshua tree and found one of the most unique places we’ve ever been. To get away from the common strip restaurant come here. We had the ribs which came in a spicy sauce and were excellent. A Full rack feeds two people. Beers come in jam jars and there is live rock music Sunday night. Pappys is a place that must be experienced at least once.
The Crown Jewel of the Mojave Desert. Tucked away in a maze of Joshua Trees, and old western movie sets is the best damn Chili this side of Texas. The food at Pappy and Harriet’s is phenomenally hearty and tasty, and the service is colorful and friendly. The bar boasts a nice selection of beer served in jars, and the live music is an attraction all itself. The decor whispers of the history and grandeur of the talented musicians and personalities that have made the place inconspicuously famous. Don’t miss Pappy’s Chili or the Cheese Fries. For a good laugh, check out Howling VII (filmed on location) before you go. RIP Pappy!
