Excellent taste, healthful options, fast. I had a great experience ordering at The Counter and eating the food. Friendly people guided us thru the steps to build our burgers. We ordered the house-made vegan burger. Really delicious, held together, not greasy. Topping choices give a range of options. The brioche bun was especially flavorful! The super thin cut fries–my favorite style—were perfectly spiced hot and crispy. Convenient boxes meant we took dinner on the plane with no spills no squishes. 5 stars
Breakfast Deliciousness in the Morning, albeit it slowly……… There are very low expectations with food served at an airport, despite the resurgence in building local respectability with transportation guilds nationwide. However, The Counter ‘countered’ these beliefs and hurdled over them quite nimbly upon a recent visit to America’s Finest City (a claim very hard to dispute mind you!)Despite a seemingly haphazard assembly line process whereupon orders are taken one after another without regard to the lack of movement linearly. Food is cooked to order, a rarity in this travel world, and whatever time limitations that are created due to less than stellar blocking and tackling is made up for with the deliciousness of the final product.Assumptions are made that this ‘build ones own burger’ establishment follows its same procedures with a breakfast session yet it’s kinks are still being worked out. Picking your egg and bread, add a protein and drink, then pay upfront. However, the amount of time it takes for one person to take said order pales in comparison to the plates or take-away packages that quickly build up at the next ‘station’ awaiting the cooked product to be delivered. This is certainly not a death knell for the visible choices entice the waiting patrons appears better than anything offered in airport dining option environ.Toppings? How would you like some spinach? Tomato? Jalapeno?Sauce (Sauce? For breakfast? Almost as alien as baked beans for breakfast….never could stomach that back in London!) But a Chipotle Aioli squeeze was simply too tempting to try with a deliciously brewed coffee and Egg/Cheese/Sausage Croissant with Fresh Spinach. Food? Excellent! Processing? Needy………….Seating? Zero……..and not the fault of The Counter but of the Airport for the entire area is squeezed onto land that was seemingly created by dredging San Diego Harbor. My judgement is that this is certainly a delightful little jewel with scrumptious offerings if only one has some time to wait (10 minutes on my morning) for the patience will be rewarded amply. thesherlockholmesreviews.com
