Great No Frills Mexican Food. I’ve never understood how a small town like Alpine can support upwards of 6 Mexican restaurants but if you had to pick one that stands above the rest, it’s Al Panchos. This small restaurant on Alpine’s main drag is nothing special in the atmosphere department but the food quality ranges from consistently good to excellent. Beer and wine license only so if you’re looking for a margarita, you’ll need to look elsewhere. Prices are reasonable – anywhere from $8-$11 for dinner entrees.House specialties include the mixed fajita special (I like mine with chicken, beef, and shrimp) delivered on a steaming hot cast iron sizzle plate. The shrimp and shrimp/octopus cocktail is also on my fave list – served in a massive goblet with a sweet broth mixed in with cilantro, onion, tomato, and fresh avocado. The restaurant has pretty much something for everyone., is super kid friendly, a very personable staff. Small outdoor patio is also available for people who smoke or want to eat outside.
