Well worth the time to try this one out. My husband, another couple and I went to Inland Tavern for a try last Wednesday (Jan 21st). I made the selection after reading the review in the UT and because I love to try new restaurants. I was not disappointed and neither were the rest of the group. I felt I needed to write a review after reading those that panned the tavern. Our waitress was at our table soon after we walked in. I had looked at the Facebook page for this restaurant and after noticing the picture that they serve Tobin James wines, I was caught by the hook they cast. I had a class of Tobin James Zin and was not disappointed. None of the others at the table had a mixed drink but they were happy with their beer and or soft drink choices. And for our dinner choices, I was very satisfied and would order again the Short Rib Rigatoni. Yum!! Not only was there a short rib on top but throughout the sauce there was shredded rib. The others at the table had the shrimp tacos, chicken tacos and a burger. The chips were crunchy and spicy. Would we go back again, definitely yes. There are lots of delicious sounding plates to try and appetizers too. Oh, and we did have both the donuts and the chocolatey and marshmallow gooey smore in a jar.
To further expand on my visit. I feel like this place has sort of an identity crisis.they clearly take pride in the drinks that they serve but the food is a whole other story and the service is abysmal. The menu is extremely limited and not the typical food you’d find a bar. Portions are extremely small fish was Fried even though they claim all the fish is fresh. The place was fairly empty however it took about 45 minutes to get our foodand when we did get it it was the wrong order. At that point we didn’t even complain. Our waitress was terrible she could not handle the three tables that she had. We waited 30 minutes to get our check and another 20 to try to pay for our check. I felt like a hostage the couldn’t leave and was baffled as to why my waitress couldn’t take my bill for so long she was frazzled and clearly cannot handle doing more than one task at a time. Finally I finally had to give my check to the bartender to try to get out of that god-awful place. The place doesn’t know if it’s a bar hang out or an upscale restaurant yet has the staff to support neither. Stay away until they can figure out how to operate.18 Jan, 2015Stay home. This place is awful.
Much cleaner than the old Penny Lane, and the employees seem to take pride in their craft behind the bar. I went in with my date 1/13/15 and met Taylor, and… I think his name was John. Easily, the tallest bartender I’ve ever seen. Asked him to make a few drinks for the lady and myself. Boy were we not disappointed. He made a fantastic pear-based cocktail as well as his own version of an amaretto sour for us with all fresh ingredients. They were great looking as well, you could tell they loved what they do. Word of advice: if you see either of them, don’t order a lousy gin and tonic. Use their skills! The food was surprisingly delicious as well, as I thought it would be mediocre given that it had the old reputation of being a pub.The music was a good blend of underground hip hop and jazz. Weird choice for San Marcos venues, but very refreshing!Cons: surprisingly dead in there considering how good everything is. Hope it picks up in there!
Is it the kitchen ? is it the server ? is it the computer system ?. Stopped by last night ( 1-16-15 ) place was some what full …. ordered drinks 25 minutes later they showed up . then ordered dinner ( simple pub food ) after 45 minutes a visit to the server , we finally surrendered to the manager , we quit we are leaving and not paying for the drinks …. so call the cops if like …. will give it a try later on but for now no way …. 1 1/2 hour wait and receive a beer for the bar that was 10 feet a way is very poor
