AVOID AT ANY COST. The service at this place is horrible and management was extremely poor. We planned our company Christmas party here for a dinner of 20 people. The manager told us it would be a couple of minutes before we where seated, basically lied straight to us not realizing one of his employees had already told me the party that took our spot had not even eaten yet. Our entire company was standing outside in the cold for 45 minutes before we decided to go down the street and eat somewhere with integrity. I will NEVER eat here again and don’t recommend if you have a planned out night.
Ask for Kenzo, he is an amazing chef and a joy to talk with!
Shogun, San Marcos, CA. Last evening I made a 7:00PM reservation at the restaurant for 7 people plus an infant. We arrived several minutes early and were told that they needed to clean the table. No problem. The time began to drag on and noone came to update us. One of the woman in our part had gone to the restroom and overheard the wait staff discussing that they did not have a table for us. Apparently, they had overbooked. Finally, the Maitre-D informed us that it would be a minimum of 20 minutes more with no explanation and no apologies. Since we had young children with us and we were treated with no respect, we left and will not return even though the food is good. My son who was with us, had been a regular patron of the restaurant since it opened. No longer.
LOVE IT!!. We absolutely love the food at Shogun in San Marcos! The fish is always fresh and the service is always friendly! You certainly can’t beat the 50% OFF sushi and appetizers!! We can feed a group of 5 for about $50 with rolls, sashimi and appetizers galore. Hands down best sushi for your money in North County!!
Happy Hour!. Someone recommended it to me and being a Japanese food nut that I am, I did! I’m glad we came on a happy hour so most of the food I wanted (sashimis, sushi, appetizers..) were on a half price off! 😀 I loved the crazy dragon roll. The uni sushi and salmon sashimi were pretty decent. The tokyo buffalo wings- I like! 😀 The only thing I wasn’t too crazy about from all of what we sampled was the wanton shrimp. It was kinda greasy and had too much black pepper maybe? Anyway, that won’t stop me from coming back again and try the other dishes.. on a happy hour, of course! :p
Will never go back again. I made a reservation for a party of 8 to celebrate 2 birthdays. I informed the person who took the reservation of our celebrations as well as our chef. I didn’t want to be obnoxious about informing them so the guests would be pleasantly surprised with the song and dessert at the end of the meal. Both individuals acknowledged and understood this was a birthday celebration. The party across from us was also celebrating a birthday. THey were ahead of us with their meal by about 15 minutes. After we watched them do their performance and hoopla for the birthday guest, I waited patiently for the same for our guests. NOTHING. We received the check.How embarassing. It was too late for me to do anything and they completely dropped the ball. One of our birthday guests was a 6 year old boy who got a little sad because he thought he’d also get the same treatment he had just watched across the way.On the way out I blasted our server and she apologized and gave me a $10.00 gift certificate off our next visit of minimum purchase $55.00! Ha! As if we’ll ever go back. Aside from the terrible service, the food is average as well. I’d stick with Benihana and Myiabi for sure.
Disasterous. A group of 13 friends, (including my 5 year old granddaughter) went to shogun in San Marcos to celebrate my daughers birthday. Reservations were for 6:30 p.m. but we didn’t get seated until after 7:30 p.m. It took another half hour for the chef to appear. We complained to the manager about the long wait and he said there were only four chefs on duty (there were 8 stations). We informed him that that was his issue, and we asked how he could compensate for our long delay. He ended up arguing with us, and giving us no compensation. We spent over $600 for dinner that night and every one of us walked away vowing to tell all our friends never to eat there, and you can bet we never will.
