Best Chinese food ive ever had
Good, but no longer great. When I first came to Taiwan Restaurant about 10 years ago, I was impressed by the quality of the food, service, and dining atmosphere. Not surprisingly, it became one of my favorites. After a 3 year hiatus (I moved abroad), I recently came back for brunch on two separate occasions, and was a bit disappointed both times. While their dinnerware has improved, the prices seem to have gone up (which in fairness is to be expected), and portions for family style dishes have gotten significantly smaller.Though still good, it is apparent that the overall quality of their food has gone down. For example, mushu dishes are served with a thicker, chewier tortilla, instead of the thin traditional pancakes. The rice is sometimes too dry (I suspect they keep it in the cooker for too long, or use leftovers). Dishes tend to be over-seasoned, a bit too salty and sweet. The lunch specials do have good portions, but the food was sloppy – over-seasoned with too much sauce, as if it was pre-made and plopped on the plate.I’d come back for the atmosphere, but for the price, I think I can get better food elsewhere.
The Good:-a lot of filling-great dough-well-cookedThe Bad:-not a fan of some of the ingredients in the filling, but, hey, I’ve been raised on a steady diet of Pork Gyoza from Japantown; yeah, it’s not exactly the same, is it?-very greasyOverall, taiwan makes some of the best Potstickers I’ve ever had. Try them, or else you’ll miss out on some great Chinese fare.13 Jul, 2011Fried rice. Every Chinese restaurant in the world serves fried rice, but few do it as well as Taiwan in Willow Glen. They stuff a pot of rice full beef, egg, chicken, and shrimp, and then shove as much of it as they can in a good-sized take-out box (for take-out). It’s a solid million grains of rice, each tastier than the next.13 Jul, 2011GARLIC SHRIMP. Seafood has surely been featured in better ways than this dish demonstrates. Still, it’s very tasty, though the spice and seasoning can catch you off-guard if you’re not ready for the level of heat. There also seems to be a fair amount of vegetables in the dish, and not enough shrimp. Given these unfortunate downsides, I’m not highly recommending this dish, but it’s still plenty good enough to avoid disappointment.13 Jul, 2011Beef with snow peas. The Good:-the snow peas add a nice crunch-the beef is well cooked and juicy-the sauce is almost like an Au Jus SauceThe Bad:-pricey-broth is tasty, but it can get soupy because there’s so much of itOverall, it’s very tasty and very satisfying, and is a sure bet if you want a good meal. Add some dumplings and and a drink, and it’s a taste of China.25 Feb, 2011Taiwan (Chinese). Parking is a problem at Taiwan. Otherwise, this popular Chinese restaurant in downtown Willow Glen is a hit. The food is excellent, prices are low, and they do takeout. Their orange chicken is good, and the beef with snow peas is tasty. Taiwan’s chicken with mushrooms and the fried rice are also great. Taiwan is a nice option for delicious Chinese food.Rating: 8/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com
Disappointment, especially since it is right in my neighborhood so easy for me to get to. Ordered chicken and veggies and beef w broccoli. The sauces on both seemed 90% oil and not even tasty. Too bad.
Best Chinese in Willow Glen, consistently. Nice atmosphere. One of better local Chinese in South Bay.
Best Chinese in San Jose by far
