Frozen fish, Smell of Cigarette. Someone wrote on the review and said that sashimi was mushy –cuz they freeze fish. We waited 20 min or so. The Japanese guy was nice, but he smelt like a cigar when he passed in front of us. I didnt see him washing his hands, and he served food to a table. I was hoping that he wouldn’t be our server and bring our food for us!!

Excellent quality. Not cheap, but aside from Harada’s in Morro Bay, this is by far the best sushi in the county. They have proper japanese food including going as far as regional delicacies that will make you gag (like Natto). Their fish is always top notch and their entrees outside of rolls are excellent, they have limited edition specials that can blow your socks off as well. A tatami would make this place seem even more authentic, but they’re not trying for it and that’s fine.
Yumminess squared. The best sushi in town, by far, been coming for years. While other SLO sushi joints serve dressed up California rolls and greasy tempura, Goshi (formerly Tsurugi, same folks/food as before) serves delectably fresh fish (yellowtail and salmon always standouts), simple, flavorful rolls, and a great selection of non-sushi/sashimi. Noodle bowls are also crazy good, and a great belly filler for lunch. Yuki is the friendly manager, wait staff is sweet and attentive. Try their hot green tea, it’s wonderful stuff. Eschewing cream cheese, deep fried rolls, and that sort of nonsense, Goshi gives you reliably yummy nibbles and great service at an attainable price point.
Sushi, sashimi and cooked items are all superb. My favorites are black cod (roasted), snow crab nigiri, and shrimp tempura.
