Do you insist on a morning cup of joe to start your day? I can usually refrain from java in the early morning hours, not succumbing to my daily caffeine needs until I reach the office. But when Im traveling, I am always game for a local coffee shop and that is what led me to visit Scout Coffee in downtown San Luis Obispo. Scout Coffee has a cool interior with brick walls and decorations. The inside isnt that large, but the low counter gives the inside an open feel, making it seem larger than it truly is. It is common to see Cal- Poly students sipping on lattes, doing homework or otherwise engages on their laptops or cell phones and even though everyone is consuming stimulants, the vibe is chill all the way.Scout Coffee serves beverages such as tea, coffee, almond milk, cold brew, sodas, and other drinks. The almond milk and sodas are made in- house and they roast their own beans. These factors combine to create an exceptional beverage, far better than those at other places I have visited over the years. I likely would have ordered even more drinks if time permitted, just to experience each and enjoy the fresh, natural goodness.Getting only a drink is fine, but I also recommend adding a snack to your meal. Scout Coffee sells croissants, pasties, scones, shortbread, and cookies. I ordered a scone and found it utterly delightful and a great pairing with my cold brew. Again, the care that Scout puts into its food and drink is apparent at every turn. They want customers to be beyond satisfied, and they easily succeed.Scout Coffee is open seven days per week and caters to the early morning crowd with 6:30 am service. They sell a few souvenirs to go, for an added touch. The inside is very clean, well maintained, and the employees are friendly. When I think about everything I experienced here, from the service to the dcor to the atmosphere to the food and drink, I cannot think of anything I would change. You feel right at home when you visit Scout Coffee, a small but sparkling gem in downtown San Luis Obiospo. greatbeernow.com
