I’ve been to the Cuyama Buckhorn twice since its reopening in January 2015 and was very impressed both times. The dcor and theme carried throughout the restaurant and outdoor area are whimsical and plentiful, and I was still discovering things I hadn’t noticed on our way out the door.The food certainly held its own with any of the favoritesteak and BBQ places I’ve been to. On my first trip I had the open faced roast beef with bacon-bourbon gravy, which was amazingly comforting and enough to feed two people. The ribs my companion had were cooked perfectly and some of the best he’d had. The appetizers of Squeaky Cheese (deep fried cheese curds!) and Onion Rings were both worth the trip. The mac and cheese was a tiny bit odd in texture, but after mentioning this to the chef (when he asked for opinions) it was fixed by my second visit, and is now creamy and flavorful.The second trip, I tried the pastrami sandwich, brined and smoked in-house, and it was delicious. Soon they’ll be doing their own hot-links and sausage in house, and I will definitely be going back to try them once they do.
