Not a good choice for dinner for traditional Mexican food. Best place for guacamole and a mojito.

I could go on a rant, but I won’t.. Service was bad, employees like to chat among themselves while people wait and wait, food came in small portions with small flavor, dirty plates (see pic) the only redeeming quality of our meal was the clear cold day we were able to retreat to after the ordeal was over. This has to be the first Mexican restaurant that brings house salads with blue cheese on them, I hate blue cheese, in a steak house or French restaurant but Mexican??

Carnitas Bowl (dish review). This bowl of savory, succulent, mouth watering meat comes in at about $18. Given the size, it amounts to about $6 per person. You can choose to eat the pork plain or create a tasty taco with it. I would not recommend taking it home to try to get creative; it is perfectly juicy, a wonderful attribute that would be lost with a car ride. I highly recommend this dish not only for it’s versatility, but it’s amazing flavor. The meat itself is among the best I’ve had; it is, again, very juicy and flavorful. You can tell they do not do too much to it at all. Instead, they opt to allow their food to speak for itself.28 Oct, 2012Consuelo (Spanish/Mexican). Wow is all I have to say. This is arguably one of the finest Spanish OR Mexican establishments I have dined at. I am in shock at the low 66% rating it has; the food comes in huge portions and is honestly delicious. Sure, the price tag is exorbitant, but more than worth it for the size of the plates. Since when did price matter to the shoppers at Santana Row anyway? In addition, most places are entitled to charge a few more dollars when their restaurants are this beautifully furnished. A surprisingly attractive outdoor patio and dark but charming blue interior are your two seating options, and each is nice enough to make up for bad food, another thing you will not find at Consuelo. Each meal starts off with a napkin-wrapped-package of homemade tortillas and is followed by the optional selection of your favorite drinks from their sodas, juices, or full bar. Next comes the main course (assuming you skip the pricey but most likely delicious appetizers). I ordered the Carnitas, one of my three standard dishes at any latin/hispanic establishment. I received a GIGANTIC bowl of beautifully prepared and well seasoned meat easily large enough to serve three. Though eating it plain is tasty enough, I opted to construct a soft taco or two using the fresh disks of corn that came earlier. When topped with a little salsa and lime, the improvised taco beats out most that are prepared that way on purpose. I cannot wait until my next trip to Consuelo.Rating: 7.9/10 tasteperiod.blogspot.com

I just to frequent Consuelos enticed by the atmospere, the amazing selection of world class tequila. But the dry meat, horrible service made it a restaurant I now avoid.

San Jose mexican. Great guacamole. Loud, service not the most attentive. The steak with goat cheese a bit spicey. On the whole. It got the job done but was not memorable.

Not worth the money. Food was lukewarm and bland!

Good stuff. I never make it past the appetizers
