Mixed Review. Decorum was creatively schizophrenic. Interior was dark as death despite gold plated firearm lamps scattered about to ensure no one got too relaxed. Pricing was fair, service was efficient, portions were excessive and ingredients were a mixed bag. Salads were buried under excessive piles of shredded cheese. Mediterranean cheddar cheese fondue with beer and sun dried tomatoes was favored over the bland 4-cheese blend inclusive of Gruyere and Ementhaler. Everyone loved the Euro-grilled meats, poultry and all the sea foods except the fish, which was coated with a dry rub that most found distasteful. Veg offerings where sparse and dominated by bell pepper slivers and hard chunks of squash that were ill-suited for short-duration grilling. Desert disappointed me the most as I examined the corn-syrupy behavior of the ‘melted chocolate.’ That didn’t stop me from making myself sick, dipping stale rice crispy treat balls and frozen cream puffs into it. At least the waiter was honest and admitted that it was a mix when faced with questions about the chocolate. The olive oil provided for the grilling was void of aroma and produced a bitter coating on the veg and meats. Curiously, two of our four person party felt extremely unpleasant as the meal concluded, significantly enough to delay departure. Could have been caused by the evil excess of cheese/meat/sugar. I suspect deadly high sodium levels played a part too since I grew cross-country-flight sized cankles in less than 90 minutes even we never deployed a salt shaker. The plates freaked me out a bit, made of rough, dull aluminum(?) that produced a nails-on-chalkboard sensation and gave off a spooky, industrial materials vibe. My body’s interpretation of what I ingested aroused thoughts of Costco’s processed food samples and the feeling that I’d soaked in a New Jersey food additive/preservative vat. Sorry Saratoga, I understand you folks love this place.

Recommend for Special Occassion. We all enjoyed our evening out at La Fondue and would recommend this place for a special occassion we would go back again. Just disapointed that you have to do the cooking of the meat and veges. The Chef just brings out your salad and preps your fondues on the hotplates that are built in the tables you are sitting in. Disappointed that they ran out of Kangaroo since we do not go out very often.

Always a great treat. My taste buds are delightfully happy. I love the unique menu including ostrich and alligator. We usually go early in the week fir no corkage. A romantic dinner to be had a couple times a year. Only thing I would change is to have more friendly public transportation to get home.

Always a fun treat. My fiancee introduced me to this place couple of years ago. It’s expensive, but always an fun an interesting experience. There’s always interesting meats to choose from and the chocolate fondue rocks.

Expensive and different. I come here once or twice a year, and that’s enough. I love the cheese fondue and the chocolate fondue. There are many different options for cheese and for chocolate — I’ve never had a bad one! The main course and salad are just okay, and not worth the price IMO. If you just want dessert, try for a late evening dessert reservation. It’s a special place for special food. (BTW, there is parking in the neighborhood, but be prepared to walk a couple of blocks if you don’t want valet.)

Hype at a price. When I called for my reservation I was kindly told that patio seating was all that was available this seemed fine. I would find out later that this would be a mistake as the inside dcor is necessary to distract you from what they are serving at the prices they are serving it at.Hype is what they are serving and boy at a price. It starts at the parking lot ($6), then $9 for a cocktail (which you are going to need because the wait in between to see your waiter and bus boy are long ones). The $30 cheese fondue, $10 salad, $50 meat choices, $20 dessert. $175.00 with tip. We couldn’t help but think this meal must cost you no more than $20 granted someone should be paying for the stove and lucite chairs we were sitting in and then there is all that slicing.I told the waiter to express to the chef (?) ( food cutter or meat marinader) who ever is back there that the teriaki meat was beyond salty. Word did get to someone that came to the table to confirm it was salty. No concession was made only an apologize and so all I could do was to drink as much water as I could and carry on.The most disturbing part of the meal other than the too bright overhead lights on the front patio was the fact that our finished dishes sat for at least twenty minutes before they were cleared. When they were finally cleared the technique is to stack the plates with the food on them in front of you. Flatware and food still on them and some sauce dishes on the very top to finish it off. Does anyone use a tray here? I have never eaten in an army barracks but my guess is they use this same technique of clearing dishes off the table. We were not the only ones…stack started to appear at all the tables. For what we were paying we did not need to see this.My hope was the chocolate fondue would help me forget all else and I could leave with a smile on my face ….not. Evidently, our fondue never did steam as the waiter checked back three times (he would not leave the goodies till the steam started). Come to find out there was never any water in the pot. As it slowly burned in front of us we desperately try to flag someone to turn it off. We finished off our most expensive tasting marshmellows and headed for the door ( or wait we are already outside the door). As we left I couldn’t help but notice the cocktail glasses from the beginning of the meal were still there still full of ice.It is a beautiful place and I am sure it came at a cost and as long as they have customers buying into the hype and ignoring some of what I experienced they will continue for another 16 years.I for one am not buying it….again.
