Local Night at La Posta. We had a lovely dinner at La Posta: the menu interesting; food very good especially the entrees; ambiance charming; our waitress and wait staff also charming and efficient; live musical duo at 7:00pm was low key and delightful; charcuterie platter too expensive; overall a little too expensive, but we will go back.
Sorry guys but we weren’t impressed. The wait staff seemed uninterested and never asked once how our meal was. No desert suggestions, no wine paring advice and generally no interest in participating in the dining experience. The food was good but not great. The lamb sausage with gnocchi was ok. The sausage had fantastic flavor but the gnocchi was unexciting. The fingerling potatoes came with a fantastic little padrone chili accent but were bland at best. Our other dinner, a pulled pork and pasta dish was little more than my grandmothers casserole. Great as comfort food but hardly worth the price. The egg noodles were straight off the grocery store shelf and the rosemary advertised was missing in action. We were both pleased with our wine selections but given that the sister restarunt is a wine bar I would expect there to be no bad choices on the menu. Good thing we picked well as there were no suggestions on the menu or by the wait staff. After the desert menus were dropped off at our table we selected fruit and almond tort. It was good but presented with no flair. A little garnish or drizzle would have at least made it look like some one tried. After dinner no one offered coffee or an aperitif and the check was literally dropped at the table. Overall La Posta would be a great neighborhood itallian joint but the prices are SF and the quality is Santa Cruz. These locals won’t be going back. Next time we’ll go back to Bella Roma or Caruso’s.
We just had the fixed price 3 course dinner and it was very good and a good value.
Pretty Impressive. Pretty damn impressive for Santa Cruz. Almost on par with San Franciscan success.
Nice!. This is a nice little restaurant that surprises with extraordinary selections and quality. Kudos to the chef and to the knowledgable and gentle servers. I like this place much better than Sestri (now closed) and that popular Italian place on the other side of town.
La Posta. This is a hidden treasure… spread the word…. Pre-fix Sundays are so wonderful! The food is great service rocks and its worth the money spent!
