Small yet delicious portions. Get anything with bacon or ham or cured meat. Bacon is not salty but well balance. We had brunch. I had bacon and a very delicious local green salad. Perfect for not being hungry. The eggs Benedict that I sample were delicious. Hollandaise sauce was perfectly lemony. awellfedlife.com
New Location is much more expensive and not the same. I was a very big fan of the Old Zazu and loved all the food and the wonderful service. This new Zazu is not the same at all. The new industrial hipster style environment is kind of cool but for me it’s about the food. We picked the starter plate of Padrones Peppers. (they were $14.) They were good and Ok I’ve had similar Padrone Pepper plates at other restaurants that were fancier and paid much less for them so that was a little disappointing. For dinner I ordered the Cod. Honestly I’m not sure if it was me not liking the fish or maybe the fish was turning old tasting. I didn’t care for it because of a strong fish smell and taste. The waitress did ask me about the dish and insisted I got something else. I picked the salmon and told them to leave off the clams because I don’t eat shellfish. Maybe the kitchen rushed it for me but it was edible and much better than the cod and not so great and it was (I think $28.00). Left underwhelmed with much lighter pockets. Will not return.25 Mar, 2013Real Farm to Table. I always come here when I’m in the area and always have a great dinner. We always get a cheese plate and I don’t know what they do to the bread but it is always so tasty. This time we had the asparagus with a deviled egg and the plate was garnished with fava bean flowers and chucky house cured bacon was on the asparagus. We had a chicken dinner and a vegetarian stuffed pepper that was delicious and cooked to perfection. It’s always a pea sure dining here.
Delicious but expensive. Zazu’s new location at the hip Barlow neighborhood is great. The food is upscale homespun, with such dishes as Soft Shell Crab BLT and Burrata, Grilled Peach, and home-cured ham. Service is fine, if a bit nervous on opening night (Aug 7, 2013). In a nutshell, it is fun, hip, delicious. And very over-priced. My daughter and I dined on a few girl-sized small plates and only one glass of wine between us (house wine at that) and the total with tip was $88. Tiny portion of fabulous fries was $8. Small plate-sized pasta dish was $24. Side of Swiss chard was $8. Really? Fabulous food, priced too high.
Rustic Charm. Buckets of rustic country charm surround you when you enter this restaurant. The staff are very attentive, friendly and laid back.I had the special which was sea bass, egg, and green beans, on a bed of greens with a vinaigrette. Their version of a Nicoise salad. The fish was slightly overdone which put a little damper on things, but I still enjoyed the meal in spite of it. The veggies are grown on their farm right next door.My wife had the Flat Iron steak which she thought was terrific. The kids had the Grilled cheese sandwich and spicy tomato soup which they both loved. Also, for starters they brought out bread that was really, really delicious. Our server told us they started getting their bread from a bakery in Forrestville called Nightingale Breads.Prices are a little more north than I had anticipated, but all in all a very enjoyable experience.
