If you build they will come. Have been going to Art’s Chili Dogs over 50 years. The first time I went there was when I was 5 years old with my older brother Benny. God rest his soul. never stopped going there, after we moved out of the neighborhood .The dogs were flavorful. The buns were served warm and soft. The chili was just right .I’ve tried to find a chili that is comparable in the local markets to this day ,but my search has been futile. Oh, I crave an Arts dog right now .Art was the nicest person, once, as a child, when I had no money, he just looked at me, didn’t say a word, made me a dog , put it in front of me, and just keeping working on the next order .That Chili dog was the tastiest ever. Those memories will never go away.God bless the current owners for keeping Art’s alive ,Thank you
Love Art. My father took me there as a child when He worked at the LA Pepperdine College in the 1970’s. Now I might be starting a catering business in Asheville NC soon?
NO COMPARISONS. I have been a customer, fan, friend and promoter of Art’s since the 1960’s.I am a hot dog fiend that lives in Chicago, where the hot dog is king, with Vienna Beef’s headquarters is located.I still remember Art and the stand where I ate almost everyday after high school and was chastised by Art for eating too many of his peppers. The buns were steamed perfectly, which virtually no one does well here in Chicago. The chili was tasty and the mound of onions made for a messy but delicious hot dog. The neighborhood was rough but no one every bothered Art as the 77th police department was there often, but mainly as no one wanted to stop the flow of great food from Art.He was a very intelligent man and we had many hot dialogs on many various subjects.I try to visit Art’s whenever I return to LA to visit my daughter. The place is a little fancier and cleaner but the hot dogs are still the greatest ANYWHERE. Great memories with a great institution and I recommend that you make a life memory of having the best of the best hot dog. Also, a visit to the original Tommy’s Hamburger stand on Beverly would complete the best hot dog and hamburger combination available.I miss you Art, but I know that you are looking down with a great smile on the the many, many happy faces that you and your food created. With lots of love and thanks.Trevor
The best. I have been going to Art’s most of my life and I was born in 1950 I might have not been eating there but my parents took me there. I remember when I was about 5 years old I fell off one of his outdoor bar stools and hit my head but got up and finished my chilie dog. My dad lived at 73rd and Vermont and ate there as a kid with his dad. So my family goes back a long time with Art. God bless you Art and I hope you are selling your delicious chile dogs and tamales in Heaven.
The Best Chili Dogs Period. I have been going to Arts since April 1964. He became my friend and was a great guy. He makes his own Chili but would not sell you a bowl as it made him sick on one occassion. His hot dogs are made special for him by Hormel. He steams the buns and the dogs. I have never been able to eat less than 3 per visit. These are so far above Pinks, there is no comparison. Pinks suck. Seven Eleven hot dogs are better. Fab Dogs in Reseda which I just went to about a month ago are mediocre at best. The hot dog is mealy inside, the chili is good though. No one has ever mentioned Arts in any way in any forum. Dont take my word for it. Go there and you will know. Its on the corner of Florence and Normandie, the site where Reginald Denny was beaten during the Rodney King riots. Art was a white man but his stand was not touched as the locals love his dogs. He used to sell 1000 a day. The menu has expanded but go for the classic chili cheese dog first. You will love it.
