Root was once my favorite local place for Chinese food,with some strengths and weaknesses. Now they are trying to compete with the other big family-style Chinese places on El Camino. The American-style dishes like General Pso’s chicken are excellent. Anything with seafood in it tastes fishy and bland to me here. The atmosphere is bizarre with boxing matches on TV next to a very commercial looking screen up with pictures of their dishes. They tried to remodel and update but it is eclectic. The staff is friendly but service is slow when they are busy. It is very popular on Saturday for lunch.
