The small city of Stanton, has a little gem of an ice cream spot.Stantons population is roughly 38,000 compared to Garden Grove, CA at 175,000. This is a small city, and some people may have never even heard of it or may think its located in the middle of nowhere. However, the neighboring cities to Stanton are actually Cypress, Garden Grove, and Anaheim.Neveria La Flor de Mexico is authentic as Mexican ice cream and paletas (fruit popsicles) get.We found this delicious sweet spot right next to Kelleys Kookies, which has shortbread cookies that closely resemble the Honolulu Cookie Company in Hawaii. Neveria La Flor de Mexico handcrafts all of their goodies in house with fresh ingredients.Stepping into this sweet spot provides that cozy, heartfelt, and genuine family feeling. The family behind the counter kindly greets everyone with a smile. The walls of this sweet shop is covered in pink and white stripes, and adds to the simplistic and fun feeling of the place.Neveria La Flor de Mexico is a family-run ice cream business and they place their Paletas in a freezer with flavor labels stacked on the sliding freezer door. Some flavors they offer are brownies n creme, taro and coconut, coffee w/ almonds, watermelon, rose petal, and many more. They also offer the traditional scoop-able ice cream with many unique flavors made in-house. We picked up two popsicles/paletas and one ice cream scoop in a cone all for under $9.00! Its a steal in Stanton for all of that ice cream. Its definitely a bang for your buck!Things tried:Rice pudding paleta: Tasted just like horchata, with a sweet cinnamon taste.Red Velvet Cheesecake: Cheesecake base with bits of red velvet in the popsicle. The star of this place was called Angels Kiss, which was a Cherry base with raisins, strawberries, marshmallows, and different types of nuts mixed in. This triggered all of our senses, as the texture of this flavor was creamy, chewy, and crunchy all in one bite from these ingredients. In 2010, this place was one of the top five listed as The BEST ice cream shop in the OC. If youre feeling adventurous, then venture out to Stanton, CA ( its not that big ) for some authentic and unique Mexican ice cream; and see why Neveria La Flor de Mexico was on that list. donutscookiesandcream.com
