Woah. Hold it right there friends. There may very well no longer be a need to hop across the 101 to hit up Chipotle, Qdoba, or Baja Fresh, because The Sea Casa has got you covered in the Mexican department.Star 1 – How was the service and atmosphere?Tucked away at the edge of a strip mall dominated by Sprouts, The Sea Casa is a spruced up Mexican local hotspot whose atmosphere outshines even Chipotle. Often with a line literally out the door (especially around 17:00… call ahead!), The Sea Casa has limited seating (and standing space for that matter), but the atmosphere is friendly and among the cleanest Mexican restaurants I’ve ever seen. On top of all that… the menu… wow. We’re not just talking burritos and tacos here folks. A gorgeous selection of seafood options, enchiladas, mexican platters and a full breakfast menu jump out at you like some sort of beautiful painting, and just on that alone I know I’ll be back soon. After ordering my La Bamba Burrito, I sat down and had it brought to me in under 5 minutes. Star Granted.Star 2 – How were the portions relative to the cost?$$? Please. Not even close! At $7.45 including tax, my La Bamba burrito was not only extremely filling, but came with chips as well! While not quite as large as a Chipotle Burrito, there was a good balance of lettuce, cheese, chicken, beans and rice, making my $7.45 well worth it. Star Granted.Stars 3/4 – How was the food?(sigh). So the curse of the salsa bar strikes again. Some background: easily over 80% of the time, when I see a self-serve salsa bar, my red flags prove to be warranted. It just seems as though self-serve salsa bars are equivalent the restaurant is admitting that their dishes are going to need generous amounts of salsa to prove acceptable, which shouldn’t be the case with Mexican food! Now, before it appears as though I’m really bashing my La Bamba burrito, let me point out that it was obviously (you can see all the food prepared right there) freshly prepared, was filling, and I’d gladly order one again. However, if I may make a quick comparison to Chipotle, the pinto beans and chicken were rather plain compared to the zing that you get at Chipotle with their pinto beans cooked in pork and zesty meats. For that reason, I’ll go ahead and dish out a single. Single Star Granted.Star 5 – Would you eat it every day if you could? While my burrito wasn’t top-tier, I was very, very impressed by La Bamba. Having grown tired of the same-ole-same-ole taco and burrito options, The Sea Casa’s unique, fresh, and varied menu was a breath of fresh air that was well complimented by their reasonable prices and hyper-clean and comfortable environment. There’s no doubt that I’ll be back several times in the near future to test out both the breakfast burritos and the enchiladas, so expect review updates! For the time being, The Sea Casa is well worth not one, but several visits, and I could eat here every day. Star Granted.
