It’s simply a great place to hang out with friends. It has a great ambience and a variety of beverages. The local beer is quite popular. Be prepared to see a large crowd in the evening even on normal days. The food is also good, but mostly people come for the beer and have a good times with friends and colleagues.

Draft Republic has a typical uninspired San Diego exterior with the cold stone and metal unfinished interior of a brew pub. However the beer selection is very good and the food is definitely a step up from brew pub standard. I’m very fond of the tuna tataki on crispy wonton with guacamole and cilantro, a sort of upscale nacho, reminiscent of the similarly good take on the this item at the Prospect Grill in La Jolla. Also in Draft Republic’s favor is a moderate noise level and a distinct lack of discussion about eyeballs, ad revenue, or the incentivization of anything. In other words this is a good place to leave your job behind.

Draft Republic is a great place to visit for quality modern bar food (everything has that extra flavor that you wouldn’t get from traditional bar food) and has a fantastic tap list of beers. I went for a business lunch and we started with an order of the Brussels sprouts. They had a nice tangy kick with some goat cheese, white wine vinegar, and apple chunks. The side was large enough for everyone to have a nice small serving.I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and it was quite tasty. The three types of cheese blended together nicely and the bacon was flavorful. The house Parmesan fries come with every sandwich and alone they are very tasty but they also come with a special house ketchup that has garlic and chili peppers. It isn’t spicy but has a great flavor unlike regular ketchup. A side salad comes with every sandwich as well and it was a good helping of mixed greens with a nice light vinaigrette.Other people at my table ordered the burger and someone else ordered the southwest salad. They were all quite satisfied. The southwest salad had a nice helping of chicken, bacon, fried croutons, and a nice flavorful dressing so it is a salad with plenty of protein. The beer selection was quite impressive as well, with two pages of different local brews and others from well-known breweries around the country. They even had a Belgian sour on tap that I enjoyed very much.Overall, the food I had was on par with Legacy Tap Room and Kitchen (located nearby off Miramar Road) and prices were reasonable considering the quality and portions served. (Sandwiches range from $12-15) I will certainly be back another time to try something else. sdhopaddict.com
