I really want to like this place, but food is often VERY disappointing. Staff is very nice, pleasant ambience, but the last tempura I ordered tasted like chicken fried steak!? Batter tasted nothing like tempura batter… Okie or Alabama style, maybe? Cooks are Mexican, as are most cooks in San Diego, but one would think they would be given Japanese recipes and ingredients to work with? Maybe the owner should take the cooks out to eat at a real Japanese restaurant?!19 Aug, 2012OK – not bad for University City food. This is not the greatest japanese food, but its OK, and the staff usually does their best to make up for it through irrational exuberance. This is area is a bit of a quality food desert, and this place is about the only one in the area that we go back to regularly. Some of the food seems like it was purchased frozen and pre-prepared. We’re not big sushi eaters, so that may be much better. We’ve had mostly tempura, teriyaki and other items.
