Daichan. Is. Awesome. I started with the garlic baby squid and the dish was perfect: sweet, garlicky sauce with tender squid. After deliberating between the sushi bowl and the poke bowl, the purist in me decided to try out the sushi bowl. It was good but lacked a little in the flavor department. Next time I’ll be getting the poke bowl. My biggest regret about going to Daichan was being unable to order the entire menu. Enjoy!
I have been in love with this place for like 11 years. Moved away and always wanted to come back. Well it hasn’t changed a bit. We always order natto, but it’s an aquired taste. Everything here is just great!! You will not be disappointed 🙂
Japanese Soul Food. Daichan claims itself serving Japanese soul food, I guess they mean Japanese comfort food. They have many good selections on the menu, from appetizers, rice bowls, noodles, sashimi and desserts.I went there two times in a week. I had Chicken Katsu Curry on Rice. Deep-fried chicken filet was fried to perfection; golden brown, juicy and not oily. Curry sauce was sweet to my taste. The other time I had Mixed Sashimi Poki (rice bowl). Diced sashimi was mixed with seasoning and chili soy sauce, came with some shredded lettuce. I found out it tasted better after I well stirred all ingredients because rice was a bit dry to me. Overall they’re good rice dishes. White rice could be substituted with brown rice for $1.Tempura Ice-cream was a true winner; batter was warm and crispy, amazingly to go with the cold green tea ice-cream inside.Ambiance and decor were one of its kind, as a small eatery you could find in Japan. Japanese cultural items were displayed all over the place, and walls were covered by so many pictures. Service was nice and attentive.
I really enjoyed the Sukiyaki bowl. I ordered take out to eat at work, but will defintely return to dine in the cozy atmosphere and to try the rest of the menu.
Chef Gary-San takes real pride in how his food looks and tastes, and of shows on every menu item j have eaten at DaiChan. The flavors are genuine Japanese home cookin’, from the gigantic curry bowl to the fish stew to the Ginger pork. The sashimi is extraordinary and the appetizers are all perfect: faves are the stuffed pumpkin and agedashi tofu.
