I’ve got very average food with rude service – not the best combination for Saturday dinner. The server was really mean to me, and after all I was required to pay 18% gratitude! I had my little son with me, so I wasn’t into arguing, but definitely will never ever go there again.
Awesome food. Before traveling to Jamaica, I had a thirst to explore different Jamaican restuarants in the city. Sattdown was by far the best! Their bbq jerk chicken dish is bomb!!!! the actual restuarant is quaint and its a cool date spot with really friendly service.
Get Some Tail. Finding parking will be the least enjoyable part of your visit to this little hideaway. It’s been around since roughly the end of 2009, and the food is great. The signature dish is the ox-tail, and for good reason. It’s been cooked to tender perfection. It is served on the bone, and it’s easiest to just pick up the pieces and bite off the meat (though you can make a certain amount of headway with a fork if you’re determined enough). Lots of little bits to nibble and bite at for the determined, though the squeamish may be a bit put off by the delicious fatty portions. The platter is rounded out with a scoop of rice/beans, some steamed (and salty) cabbage & broccoli, and a grilled or fried plantain. The plantain is handy for mopping up some of the juice left from the ox-tail. Neither the vegetables or the rice/beans is anything to write home about, but sop up more of the ox-tail juice to improve the flavoring. Their wings are also delicious, and not at all what you think of when you think of chicken wings (Buffalo style, in other words). These are grilled on the bone and seasoned with a bit of a bite. Chef Tony will be happy to provide you with an alternate hot sauce if the native seasoning isn’t spicy enough for you.Check out the custom drinks that are available as well. Sorrel and pineapple is surprisingly mild, taking the over-sweet edge off of the pineapple.
