Awesome simple home style Italian. Budget cheap and cheerful. Been there forever apparently and I can see why. Little faded and rough around the edges…

Food: mediocre to poor; Service: awful.. READ THIS: I have been to Rufinos three times, and I have yet to have a good entre, or a good dining experience. The food is in the range of acceptable to poor, but the service is terrible (very slow and unfocused), and the server is almost never anywhere to be seen! When I arrived yesterday, I informed the waitress that I needed to eat right away (due to health reasons). The item on the menu which I wanted was not available, so I ordered a calzone. (Thinking them to be prebaked, I did not know that it would take a while to make.) Now I had made it clear that I needed to eat right away. And when I asked her a little later whether it would be out soon, she snapped at me that she had put it in. (I thought she meant that she had put it in the oven. Apparently she meant that she had put in the order not bothering to explain to the cook that it was needed right away.) Could she not have explained in the beginning that the item would take a while, and that I might want to consider an alternative? So I finally told the owner that I did not mean to seem rude, but that I could not wait any longer, saying Bring me anything. Over twenty minutes later I finally got my order. (And during that time I was seriously looking at other restaurants through the window, considering a quick purchase while I waited on my entre — I am not joking. It took almost an hour to get this item.) It is one thing that the owner and his staff are not good communicators. But what makes matters worse is it they are simply not honest with the customer, not to mention insensitive. And the calzone was absolutely the worst ever had. It was hard, dry, and crusty on the outside and very runny on the inside. I mean it was really bad! Finally, they have virtually nothing left on their dessert list. They only have one ice cream truffle left (the menu features three), and when I requested a spumoni wedge (even pointing to it on the dessert list) they, instead, brought me a dish of spumoni ice cream without bothering to inform me that they no longer have the wedges. Only when I asked specifically for a wedge the second time around (I always order two desserts) did they explain that they no longer have them. And when my friends asked for tiramisu, the waitress said that it was not ready to be served because, although she had baked it earlier in the day, nobody had bothered to refrigerate it. — Really? On a Saturday night? You have to be kidding! Did I mention that I am not going back?
Garfield, pasta and hips. I have to publicly thank to Mr Roy B for introducing me to this delicious and dangerous place. http://www.lilithenelpaisdelasmaravillas.com/2013/11/garfield-pasta-and-hips.htmlGrowing up in Colombia I used to love Garfield (the cartoon) not only for his smart-ass remarks but also for his love to pasta and Italian food (he was born in an Italian restaurant if I recall correctly). Besides in Col. Italian food SUX (sorry with the restaurant owners of my beloved Bogota but they are far from remarkable)Yes, for me is impossible to pass on a good Italian meal, moreover if is a in mom&pop restaurant. NO Chains, those are so boring and predictable…But as they say: a moment on the lips an eternity on the hip, so I try not to fall into temptation too often…Rufino’s has both things great food and is a mom&pop Italian restaurant. Located in a strip mall (like most of the mom&pop places) they made an effort to beautify their front door. The service was nice and attentive. We started with delicious bread (again a moment on the lips an eternity on the hip… OMG) then as usual I ordered meat lasagna and it was great To finish the delicious meal we had dessert (I should say I had dessert because I ate most of it) Soooo if everything is so great, why not 5 stars?again the temperature! people the AC is a very useful device!!! don’t be so cheap because that can cost you your clientele… just saying Well after all these years, my love for Garfield and Italian food remains intactSimply Delicious!Of course I’ll be back, for the food and to try all their exquisite desserts (PS: who cares about the hips) Highly recommended!
Some Missteps, but I’ll go again!. I had high hopes for this place. I thought that it was a rare gem near work, but unfortunately the whole experience left me with many hopes and wishes for a return visit.I made the mistake of not only going on a weekend day, but also a dedicated holiday so needless to say there were a lot of large parties present. What that led to was solo me being ignored for the most part. I can’t blame the server too much. There was only one server that had to handle every single table… it just made my experience less pleasant. Now the food. A dear friend had talked up and recommended the Chicken al Limone and I don’t know if the kitchen staff prepared mine differently or what, but I didn’t share her same sentiments for this dish. The Spaghetti and the Boneless Chicken were good, but the sauce on this dish was so meh! Why? Well because the Garlic was just too damn assertive. There wasn’t enough balance of flavors. I love Garlic, but it just totally over powered the lemon, butter, and capers. The Garlic came in like Chuck Norris and just kicked some ass!!!
Quite possibly the best Italian food we have ever had! The service was fantastic. The waitress had someone run next door and get some fresh milk so our granddaughter could have chocolate milk. wish it was back home in Iowa so we could eat there more often!
Forget it!. Went there with the entertainment card. They offered a $13. discount. Traveled 1/2 hour to get there. The discount changed from $13. to $5. Not a good way to treat new customers.Took 1 hour to get the food. Then when we got it, Linguine Pescatore, all but 1 of the muscle shells were closed, which of course indicates BAD SHELL FISH.When my wife went to the Ladies room, guess what no Toilet Paper! When she finished she noticed no paper towels.Skip this place, keep your money and your sanity.
Great Experience. From the moment I walked in I could tell this was a local place where the staff knows your name. Atmosphere inside was great. The staff was very friendly. We tried pizza and pasta. The pasta was very good. Yet, I was amazed by the pizza. I have never seen so many toppings on a pizza. We would definately go back to this place.
Awesome place, and it’s owned by Italians. Very authentic food!
