So craft burgers seem to be a pretty buzz worthy discussion topic for foodies over the last couple of years; and after trying Umami burger for the 2nd time, my first not so great experience was further confirmed by my 2nd, and even less impressive experience. This place is unbelievably over-hyped, as well as overpriced; especially once your child sized burger is actually brought to your table. I’m not sure how there happen to be so many fanboy’s coming out of the wood work for this place, but I think it’s absolute garbage. I tried the ‘Manly Burger,’ and it was anything but manly… More like a sad attempt to slap a few very distinctive ingredients together and pass it off as something resembling a burger. If you wan’t a real burger, hit up the pint house. That’s whats up.
Eating Yum. Got a burger, yum. really yum. something in the bread. fries were decent. onion rings less so. would be great if they took bitcoin.
Sooooo freaking delicious. Umami and truffle burgers are amazing. So are the truffle fries and beet salad. Yum. Yum. Yum.
A bit on the pricey side, but quite tasty!
The manly burger and smushed potatoes are my favorite!! Fun place, full bar, hip ambience and shares the building with historic Anaheim Brewery!
Overpriced burgers, sure, but they’re oh so tasty!. Each bite of my truffle burger was heaven in my mouth. Sadly, the burger is smallish and the experience was over much too soon. Luckily, their sides and appetizers are priced right and taste great. Their tempura onion rings are the best of the bunch — light, not greasy, perfectly crispy. I’ve tried them in both their house ketchup and their jalapeno ranch, ketchup was best. Their ketchup is absolutely amazing, with a touch of fish sauce and braised in katsuobushi, fish flakes. It’s addictive. Their pickle plate is too odd for my liking. Sweet potato fries are done well here.Beer on tap is limited but Umami is offers some of the tastiest beers this country has to offer. I recommend the perfectly sweet Allagash White out of Portland, Maine. It goes with anything.Ambiance here is my favorite part. I appreciate any place daring enough to make an artsy, modern space out of old rustic wood and rusty license places. It’s warm, inviting and decidedly manly with a large central bar. Patio is pleasant as well, large with plenty of shade. It could use a few more plants imo, but it’s not bad. Service here is mostly friendly, there are a few servers a bit full of themselves but they do try to care. A few know more about the food and drink menus than others. So maybe they need a little more schooling, but overall, service is good here.I’m impressed. They really are on of the best places for a burger in all of Southern California. I’ll be a regular for sure.A must try!
I won’t go back. I had heard a lot of buzz about Umami Burger and was looking forward to dining there, So we took a party of six this past Saturday 10/6/12 to the restuarant in Anaheim. Parking is bad, the facility was overly loud as the entire place was wood or metal. Small inside with large dirty patio outside. Trees were overhanging the dining area, good luck if you actually were seated there, and there is a vacant lot adjacent to the rest. that was all dirt!! So enjoy the dirt in your food.Food quality was just O.K. and small portions. we all ordered burgers and fries/onion rings. The sides came out way before our burgers did and we waited a short time but if we waited any longer it would have been cold. Additionally, I wanted an Iced Tea, they had only Green tea. So we all ordered soft drinks which were served in warm 10 oz bottles, I had to ask for a cup with ice. The price for this bottle was $3.00 totally RIDICULOUS. BTW, they have fountain drinks at the bar for mixed drinks, why not for the diners?I’m not a food snob nor cheap, but I expect a value for the $$$. This place did not deliver a value for my $$$. only 1 person in our group of 6 said that they liked Umami and would consider coming back. Our tab before tip for 6 burgers, fries and diet sodas was $120.00. Really?
