Ginger Dressing is GOLD!!!. This place is gold!!! I usually get the Teriyaki chicken plate or the onion chicken plate(my new favorite) and order a side ginger dressing and miso sauce and use it to dip my chicken!!! Cheap and delicious!!! A college student’s spot. I found it by chance hoping to replace my favorite SD spot Rice king’s chicken bowls, and NEW JAPAN definitly does it. The location SUCKS! PARKING SUCKS MORE! Only one server takes the orders serves the food and answers the phone, so service can back up from time to time. Overall::: The trouble of getting there and dealing with the parking is worth my onion chicken and ginger sauce!!

Fast & cheap Japanese eats!. I’ve been going to new japan (sawtelle and santa monica blvd) FOREVER! back in the day, my friends and i found this little gem @ midnight after an impromptu party in the dorms at UCLA. i have been hooked ever since.the only caveat is, do not expect high quality japanese food (oh, and they are cash only). new japan is your average fast(er) japanese food joint that serves solid food at reasonable pries. they get another star for being open late…..however, go here late if you don’t mind the bums that tend to congregate in the plaza housing new japan, subway and 7-eleven.my standard fare at new japan is their chirashi. after a long day at work, i call in my order and pick it up on my way home. the chirashi is roughly $11 and is well worth it! a bed of rice covered with maguro, sake, hamachi, hirame and tamago. off to the side they have spicy tuna and spicy scallop. dang, i just made myself hungry!!all in all, new japan is a place i go to get a quick japanese food fix if i do not want to head further south on sawtelle to the plethora of japanese eats. that or if i am hungry later in the evening when the majority (if not all) of the japanese resto’s on sawtelle are closed.although the zip is displayed as 90189, the true zip is 90025! sorry about that!
