Haven for Noodle Lovers. If you crave for big time noodles (of the Asian kind), where do you go? Unfortunately, if you live in the Valley, there is no place. Luckily, it is not too long a drive to the UCLA campus where, on Westwood, you find Noodle Planet. Only Cash is accepted. Should not be a problem for foodies. The menu is extensive with noodle dishes – primarily Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese. There are soup noodles, plain noodle dishes and soupless noodle dishes. In addition you will find other Asian dishes (limited) that you can order with rice. Appetizers are very good. They lack choices of fish. I ordered a catfish and it was so bony that we got tired eating it. They miss this aspect of Asian cuisine – bony is fine – but can you not supply good cuts? Finally, it would be nice if they had Singapore Noodles on the menu. Having said that, this is still a nice place for discovery – and satisfaction.
Slim picking….. Not bad, not great….but sure hits the spot if you have a pho or boat noodle craving.walked to noodle planet one evening to satiate a noodle craving. it was a pleasant evening and the stroll from west la to the village was very nice. when we arrived, we were immediately seated at a booth along the windowline.the menu is quite impressive and i bet they had well over 50 items on their menu from apps to noodles to rice dishes to soups to desserts. since we were extremely focused, we ordered up:1. pho dac biet: this was decent. the broth was definitely laced with msg but most pho places use msg to avoid having to make stock on their own (involves boiling beef bones for 12+hrs). the noodles were kinda stuck together which is a big no-no but the bowl was huge and they did not skimp on the beef slices, the tendon or tripe. overall, it was a decent bowl of pho if you are on teh westside.2. thai boat noodle: this was also decent. the broth was also laced with msg but hell, that is to be expected at a joint like noodle planet. the broth was very thick with a base made out of blood so my dining companion had to pawn the noodles off on me. i happily obliged and gave her my pho. as with the pho, the boat noodle was flush with slices of beef, meatballs, tripe and tendons. the broth had a subtle spicy kick to it which i enjoyed.service was spot on and friendly. although this place is a fast food noodle joint, you can while away the time if you choose to. prices are very reasonable and two people can eat for under $20, with tax and tip included.CASH ONLY though. please keep that in mind. not sure which yelpers clicked they accept credit cards….because they do not! they do have an atm by the front door in the event you do not have cash.
The Thai Boat Noodles were good but it got cold pretty fast.
