We came in on a slow afternoon, and planned to have a drink, and be on our way. Brennan was behind the bar, and we ended up having interesting conversation, ordering food, and ….hours later leaving on a very happy note. I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. The food was great, the atmosphere was perfect, and we will be back!!!
Hockey puck burger. After reading rave reviews on chowhound for the hidden gem, aka the hamburger, at philly’s west, i decided to to nosh on some naughty food as we have been well behaved all week. we walked from my pad and arrived at the cool and divey joint. we sat ourselves at a table and perused the menu prior to ordering up: me: hamburger her: cheeseburger – this changed into a hamburger when i mentioned i ordered a hamburger to save myself 100 calories…..weirdo. to share: chili cheese fries and a pitcher of bud light the bartender/waiter/possibly owner was very friendly and put in our order and brought the pitcher of beer over and…….wow…poured us our first cup. now that is friendly service!! we sat and chatted…..and chatted….and chatted…..and chatted…..then the food finally arrived. damn, i guess the food is all freshly made. that’s good…..at least that is what i initially though. the verdict: burgers: just plain bad. i dug the crispy and chewy philly roll and the onions and bell peppers….but the patty was dry, tough and devoid of flavor. can you say tasteless beef jerky patty? wack! chili cheese fries: the fries were limp and soggy, which led me to believe they have been sitting around for quite a while under a heat lamp. the cheese was good…because it was the ghetto cheese that reminded me of the $0.50 nachos i would buy at the local am/pm with buddies….ooh, nostalgia. the chili was bleh. chunky pieces of ground beef that was….you guessed it…dry….and the chili flavor was very mild. bud light: yeah, i figured i would save myself some calories drinking bud light vs fat tire. all in all, i was quite disappointed with the burgers and the chili cheese fries. damn you palate-less chowhounders!!!
