This is one brewery with a great location and a very polished look. You should definitely go in the early evening to enjoy the outdoors. Once inside the brewery, you will not feel like you are in a brewery at all. They have indoor as well as outdoor seating with a full fledged menu and makes a good option for chilling out with friends and family. We happened to visit this brewery on our recent trip to LA and this was one of the highly rated breweries accordingly to a lot of beer experts in the city. Since we were on the LA brewery trail and this was our last stop, we were almost full and couldn’t try much but if you are here, I do recommend that you try the Mocha Machine if you are a fan of coffee stouts. The Annihilator makes a great drink too. Would definitely go back to try some more on my next trip!
I have mixed feelings about the food here. Some plates were great and others not so great. The mussels, beer cheese fondue and crawfish rolls all tasted odd in flavor. I can’t really describe it in full detail but its definitely a taste I wouldn’t go back for. I think they may have used too much beer in the dishes when it comes to the mussels and fondue. On the up side, the spicy sausage and the oxtail & beef osso bucco sandwiches were decent in flavor and portion. Also the beers are good and cold. I can’t recommend anything beyond the two sandwiches mentioned but if anything…go for the beers!Visit date 2/24/2013
Go for the beer, skip the BBQ. Beer was great. The flight was priced well and had 4 great beers. However the BBQ didn’t impress me at all. Kind of tasteless, cold, and not well seasoned. BBQ sauces were really runny and the faste of them was so so. Have had much better BBQ. Not sure how they got such a great rating, California residents must not know good BBQ.
Really enjoyed this place, good food great beer, fun friendly atmosphere.
Interesting place near the commercialized Harbor/Marina. (09/21/2011) Nice BBQ in Long Beach, not exactly the the best BBQ ever, but we are in California after all (meat not quite as moist or tender, a little on the salty side). If you’re in the tourist wasteland around the Long Beach Marina/Convention Center area this is a place with a personality. The beers are varied enough from the usual fare, pretty good flavors, some unusual characteristics (but not necessarily enough to be stand-out memorable). The sides are interesting, if not entirely successful; sweet, cornbread with dried cranberries; blue cheese grits (unappealing gray color, some blue cheese flavor, good, but could’ve used some kind of zip, acid?, salt?, unctuousness?); hush puppies are crispy and corny, but not really quite like a good ‘ole Southern hush puppy. Housemade BBQ sauces have some nice zip, mix of spices, would’ve liked to have some heat. Expect to pay for the locale (downtown prices). Interior is slick and trendy, vibe is still a little divey and approachable.
