Authentic and Charming. I’ve missed authentic Mexican style breakfasts since I returned to Canada but boy, did I get a great one at Tio Chavas. It tasted just like the homemade mexican breakfasts I have previously enjoyed, because it WAS homemade in nature. The service was also pleasantly homey and they were more than happy to customize my breakfast if I wanted. I will be returning here, next time I’m in the area.
Great service/good food however… I really came for the tortilla soup. I’m in search of a great one. Although theirs is good, it isn’t great. My family who dined w/ me raved about their carne asada, chicken fajita, and carnitas. All were served w/ rice, beans and tortillas. My order was chicken tamales (is it chicken? i couldn’t tell) but the green sauce on top (per request) and the steamed masa is delish. The carnitas soft tacos is yummy too. I wonder if the tortillas were homemade? On the negative however the salsa fresca was on the watery side. It’s too mild and is in need of more flavor. I’d love to come back during their $1 taco days and request this time a spicier salsa.
WASTE OF TIME!. This place is beside the new subway on imperial and Yorba Linda Blvd. In all honesty the San Sai that went out of business was much better. Scenario: Tuesday at lunch, Taco Tuesday. the sign said 1$ soft taco’s, which sounds really good. (no mention of Street or mini) in the description. It also said breakfast burritos were only 1$. so trying to save money i order 3 taco’s and a bacon breakfast burrito. The taco’s were microscopic and the burrito was 99% potato. The bacon came out of salad shaker. (only 1 or 2 shakes). It had no flavor, and was just gross. O and the price tab was $10 for the 4 items. I will be celebrating their going out of business, in about 3 months.
