Plato’s was incredible!. We had attended the Aspen Music Festival one summer Sunday evening and in the program found an ad for Plato’s. We decided to take the short walk over to the restaurant from the Benedict Music Tent and it was lovely. All the artwork that lines the property is incredible and the views are outstanding. There is definitely no other place like the Aspen Meadows in Aspen. Once at the restaurant, we were greeted and quickly seated at the most incredible table I have ever eaten dinner at. Floor to ceiling windows gave way to uncrowded views of sweeping mountains and trees with the Roaring Fork River below. It was fabulous! Our service was splendid- they really took care of us and were so knowledgable about the wine list- something you don’t often find at restaurants. We decided to splurge and ordered a variety of food- the Flatbread, Ravioli, Beet and Chevre salad, Loch Duart Scottish Salmon and the Colorado Ribeye Lamb. The food was cooked to perfection, the wine delicious and the views incredible! I highly recommend this place to ALL. you have to eat here!
Oh my, so bad!. How can such a poor restaurant find itself in the high-priced, chic atmosphere of Aspen? How can such a place attach itself to a hotel part of a fine resort chain? The food is simply terrible: At times it is literally burned. Otherwise the meats are incredibly dry. The vegetables have no taste. The soups are a waste of liquid in this water-conscious place. (Note: The trout is passable, and the mixed potato/sweet potato take on pommes de terre lyonaisse is good.) The service is so haphazard as to require the guest to ask for a napkin and flatware after his meal is delivered. Without exaggeration, I can report having better meals from a Holiday Inn lobby breakfast buffet. You may want to stay at the resort, but take your meals in town.
