  • Excellent!. For authentic homestyle German there are few places around here and Karl's is certainly my favorite (and lower cost than the alternatives)…

I went to Karl’s today for lunch with my husband and we were disappointed. We both had sandwiches, 2 bags of chips and drinks and it totaled $30. I feel that the portion size was too small for the price. The food was good, but nothing outstanding. The menu had a half sandwich and soup or salad and there were no soups, or salad. I had the Reuben ($11) and was below average due to the small size of the sandwich. My husband had the Black Forest ham sandwich ($7) which he could have made at home for less. The staff were not rude but not friendly either. I wish I could say I’d try it again but not for the price.

Still a great place !!!. I have always loved this family style deli , it has only gotten better. They have added so much including a larger patio , sandwhich area and now have live music. You will be greeted with a smile from some of their lovely employees and have access to the world’s best German potato salad. Worth the stop thru the crazy Yosemite traffic.

Never again…. Being 75% German, I was thrilled to read the positive reviews of Karl’s Delicatessen, since this establishment is not far from my house.I took my teenage son and daughter there for lunch today, and I was extremely disappointed. My daughter and son each decided upon one of the daily hot specials. My daughter got the Weiner Wurst plate (2 weiners, sauerkraut, and potato salad for $8.95), and my son got the Hungarian Goulash with Spaetzle ($9.95). My daughter’s weiners were lukewarm at best. She deemed the sauerkraut acceptable, but not outstanding. The potato salad was disappointing though. She was expecting hot German potato salad, and was instead given two very small scoops of cold potato salad not unlike what you’d find at a 4th of July BBQ. She said it tasted fine, but was not German in the least. My son enjoyed his Hungarian Goulash, but I was VERY disappointed at the portion size considering the $10.00 price tag. I was expecting a nice sized plate…instead, it was scooped into what could best be described as a medium sized salad bowl, with the goulash on one side, and a congealed mass of spaetzel on the other (it also came with a small slice of bread). The biggest disappointment, however, was my Ham and Swiss sandwich. Be warned that the sandwiches do not come with any sides, and yet, they charged me $7.00 (yes, $7.00!!!!!!) for an ordinary sandwich on ordinary sized bread (just to give you a visual, picture 2 slices of bread that are the size of Wonder Bread). I was shocked…absolutely shocked. For $7.00 just for a ham/swiss sandwich (with lettuce and tomato), I was expecting a very large sandwich on some fancy type of Kaiser or sub roll. Nope. I could not believe my eyes when she handed me my sandwich. WHAT a disappointment. I did get a side of coleslaw (very average in taste, and not particularly cold) in a very small bowl for an additional $2.00. Again, WAY overpriced for the portion size.Never, ever again.

Very enjoyable getaway for lunch, looks like it has a loyal bunch of regulars. Arriving just before noon, there was no wait. Great atmosphere, very good Reuben. I’ll be back again soon to try the lunch specials and some of the sweeter faire.

Great lunch! Wieners, saurkrat and potato salad. All very good. If you like German food, you’ve gotta try this place.

Nice Deli. Especially if you like mortadella or tongue. The German-er the better. Cute little space. For those less, well, German-ish, plenty of options that tend to please those less, you know . . . My German heritage in-laws eat here every time in town.

Comfortable and delicious. I finally got to try this neighborhood deli. Right when you walk in you are at home. Everyone is very friendly and the food is amazing. The sauerkraut and potato salad are out of this world. I can’t wait to go back and buy a whole strudel for only ten dollars.
