Yum!. We saw a flyer about Patsy’s Chocolates and wanted to stop by to pick up some gifts from our vacation. Unfortunately we didn’t have time in our schedule to do the free tour, which sounded like a lot of fun, but we really enjoyed browsing the store and trying some samples (sea salt caramels and taffy were SO good). The associates were very helpful and sweet. I’ve never spent $50+ in a candy shop before, but we found so many delicious things to buy!! We got some sampler boxes, chocolate covered pretzels, turndown chocolates, and truffles…and then I tried the sweet cheeses popcorn. Oh my goodness–apparently it’s butterscotch and cheese, which sounds bizarre, but it was heavenly and I had to buy a box of that too. Since we came in just a little before closing the factory wasn’t really active, but there are big windows so you can see inside even when a formal tour isn’t in session. Very cool to visit a local place that’s been in business for 111 years!
Homemade Gelato…mmm!. For those of you who know Patsy’s Chocolatier, you’ve probably enjoyed their many chocolate, popcorn or nut desserts they sell. The store is actually very homey and somewhat old fashioned on the inside. The counter wraps around a large portion of the store where you can look at all of their chocolate items. But Patsy’s also serves homemade gelato that is made in the store. They usually have anywhere from 10 to 12 flavors that they serve with a metal spatula in a couple different sized containers. The stuff has the consistency of sherbert but with the texture of ice cream. Gelato, of course, does not contain lactose in it. But some of their better flavors are mango, raspberry and peaches & cream! I’d like to keep stopping by whenever we’re taking friends to Garden of the Gods!
