Best New Mexican restaurant ever!!. The is NOT just a Mexican restaurant – it’s New Mexican, which is different. Those of you who critique this place as being comparable to Taco Bell should just go there instead. The quality and taste is as good if not better than most restaurants which you’d pay a lot more to eat at in Santa Fe. Their margaritas are the best; most are made with lime juice instead of mix. I highly recommend the blue corn enchiladas with red chile – yum!
Save yourself some money and go to Taco Bell instead… Me and my wife went here on our vacation and were shocked how bad the food is and horribly overpriced. I have eaten at lots of mexican restaurants since I travel a lot with my job, and this is by far the worse one I’ve been to. To start off the chips were drowning in salt and the salsa was so spicy it was unbearable (and I love spicy salsa). The fajitas were horrid. The rice was Spanish rice not Mexican rice and most definitely from a box, mushy and tasteless. The refried beans were from a can. The chicken was likely frozen, chewy and tasteless. The tortillas were store bought and large burrito sized, not fajita sized. The vegetables were okay. I’m not a picky eater but me and wife only ate a few bites and asked for the check. The waiter knew we were unhappy and did comp our meal though. It’s obvious they were cutting a lot of corners not using fresh ingredients and using unskilled cooks. It tasted like it was just heated up in a microwave, and $24 for the single fajita. Save yourself $20 and just go to Taco Bell, that is what we ended up doing after leaving Gazpacho, and we were much more satisfied.
Haven’t eaten yet but I can truly say this is the worst margarita I have ever had, I don’t think there is an ounce of tequila in the drink, hope the food is better.
So good we ate here two nights in a row!
Great stuffed soppapilla, I always get the carne adoba, with green chile. It might be a little spicy for those unaccustomed to New Mexican food. But I think it’s great. Waitress was also very friendly and attentive. Best New Mexican type food in Durango.
Green chili is good, service can be slow (it’s Durango, why not relax a bit?), but this is one of the best Mexican places in town. Definitely worth a try.
Love this place, always good service, always good food. The tortilla burger is slap to mama good. Yummmm!!
