The Strater hotel is attached to this resturant and I highly reccomed doing the resturant and hotel as a pair. The fried oysters were not good at all and I don’t suggest them. The rest of the food was very good and plated well. The resturant was beautiful and the ambiance amazing. We ordered the absinthe from the bar but it was watered down. One thing these guys do well is the steak. I highly suggest the steak!
We were not disappointed…because we weren’t expecting much. The Strater Hotel is a Durango landmark built in the grand style of the Colorado mining camps in 1887 and beautifully maintained. For that it’s worth a visit but the restaurant experience is not worth the high prices. It can’t pull off fine dining filled with tourists in short shorts and flip flops. My glazed salmon was overlooked and burned on the bottom. My wife’s trout was so dry she had to ask for melted butter to try to save it. At least the croutons on the Caesar were house made and not from Cisco. Best to just walk through the lobby for the experience.
