Stopped in for lunch. We had two of their lunch offerings – the Carne Asada Plato and the Sopes. Also got a side of Guacamole. The guacamole was good. Turns out there is also guac on the two lunch plates. But the guac was good. Kinda guac’ed out for the moment.Sopes were good and kind of unusual on a menu. Corn cakes topped with lettuce, cheese, and a protein of your choice. Also comes with Sour cream, Pico, and Guacamole. Rice and Beans as wellCarne Asada was also really good with great flavor. Had Rice, Beans, and Pico on the plate as well.Sodas have one free refill if that matters to you.Service was pretty good.

Authentic tacos. Saw this little storefront while we were looking for a light lunch. Glad we did – it is one of those authentic places that you have to find out about from the local foodies. We sampled pork cheek, lengua, camarones, pescado. All excellent.

A hidden gem. They serve breakfast all day along with great entrees. Hand crushed ice for the authentic Mexican margaritas (caution: these are not as sweet as the Americanized margaritas you might prefer). Always a stop for us each trip to Durango…..

Delicious. I wandered into Tacos Nayarit after visiting Trimble Hot Spring. Simply great food. Authentic. Service was polite and I was not rushed.

So Much More Than Tacos. There are not many ethnic restaurants in Durango, CO that provide a truly authentic experience, though Tacos Nayarit is one of them. It is important for people to venture from the comforts of their own culture, and enter a setting that may be unfamiliar. Many reviews that are posted about this particular restaurant describe amazing food, but communication issues. These communication issues are often attributed to language barriers and either end of the interaction. By submerging ourselves into environments that promote a culture other than our own, opens the gates for learning and understanding. Perhaps if we, as an American culture made more time to engage cross-culturally (this is not exclusive to the Mexican culture), perhaps we will run into miscommunication with other peoples less frequently. In entering this wonderful restaurant, people are entering a setting in which learning can occur. The food served at the restaurant is authentic, fresh, and perfectly seasoned with spices so that the cultural traditions running deeply within the recipes are immediately obvious. The atmosphere of the restaurant also radiates with culture. From the brightly painted walls of blue and yellow, to the distinctly Mexican paintings, to the cactuses, one gets the feeling that they are emerging, if only for a moment, in a distinctly cultural experience.
