Great steaks. We had the elk steak, the filet and two ribeyes. They were all cooked perfect and were excellent! Appetizers were great too. Service was pretty good. It was Halloween weekend and the place was hopping. If this is how they always are, then there is no better place in town. I’ll be back for sure.
The best dish of the night, and it wasn’t even mine, was the Macgregor Burger that came with truffle fries. I was not expecting a burger of all things to be the star of this restaurant, but it took center stage. The truffle fries were the best I have ever had, no ketchup needed. The burger was topped with melted sliced brie cheese, and came with a bacon marmalade that was to die for. Considering I only had one (very large) bite of it, and don’t really like beef burgers, I would have switched dishes with him in a heartbeat. It was one of the best beef burgers I’ve ever had.The overall experience here was great. All of the food was good, and some of the most different types of dishes from a restaurant in a hotel that I’ve had to date. If I lived near the Estes Park area, that burger is the one thing that would keep bringing me back. It is mouth watering. Also the fact that this restaurant is located in the famously haunted Stanley Hotel helps…
Cascades, located in the historic Stanley hotel, was billed as casual fine dining. Reservations are a must, showing up 45 minutes early to have a drink and appetizer was a bit of a disappointment. Billed as being a whiskey bar, it took five minutes to get the scotch book (which was extensive) and 15 minutes to get my scotch. The small plates had the emphasis on small, do not plan on sharing, and the prosciutto plate was disappointing with three thin slices. Had to check in a second time as they would not find us in the bar. The dinner was white table cloth, but only a four foot wall separated the tables from the bar area. The spicy shrimp as our second small plate was the best thing we had all night. The dinner of buffalo pasta and duck breast both came out very late. Duck breast was cold and some pieces were rare. Buffalo pasta was good but nothing worthy of the price. There might not be many options in Estes park, but we will dine at mcdonalds or subway next time, to save the extra $125 to spend at a real fine dining experience in Fort Collins or Denver.
Great food and great atmosphere. We love the Cascade Restaurant in the Stanley Hotel. The food is always superb and the staff is very friendly. Our favorite is the Angus Burger. The bar selection is extensive. Breakfast is also delicious. Don’t miss this restaurant when in Estes Park.
Among best dining experiences ever. Exquisite food, creative options, first-class service. No, it’s not Applebee’s: you might wait a bit to see your server, who’s patiently helping other customers too. Don’t go if you expect onion rings and a burger in five minutes. Please don’t go if you can’t muster better than a T-shirt and shorts. This is a famous, historic hotel with a restaurant that lives up to its grandeur. Go if you have time to enjoy every bite amid a legendary setting.
I had a very heavenly meal of elk meatloaf, bacon wrapped, upon a bed of carrots & asparagus and covered in a delicate mushroom sauce to die for! Very savory meal with excellent service!
Solo diners not wanted?. Yet another location where I stood and waited an extensive time to be seated in a not-filled-to-capactity restarant. Finally seated, I once more waited a long time before a waitress approached me. The burger I ordered was ok. Not spectacular by any means, but not the worst I’ve had either. Overall, not The Stanley’s best foot forward.
