Interesting Vibe but Horrible Service. I’ve been to Avo’s numerous times during my 9-year residence in Fort Collins, and agree that it has an interesting hippie vibe, decent food and is a great venue in which to see a band. (I’m especially partial to the patio.) However, the service is absolutely, hands-down, THE WORST in Fort Collins. The waitresses meander aimlessly throughout the establishment, picking up a stray glass here and there, occasionally asking if you need anything (but usually you have to flag someone down, and are even then often ignored). This is a consistent issue, so I can only blame it on the extremely haphazard and poor management. I really don’t understand why this place has been open so long, but since it has, here are my suggestions – go to see a band and possibly to try the food, but order your drinks at the bar, and don’t expect service because you aren’t going to get any. If you should make the fatal error of ordering something from a waitress, expect to spend at least 30 minutes tracking her down when you are ready to pay your bill. Friendliness is also nonexistent – the people that work here are obviously inconvenienced by the presence of customers.
Avo’s is a Fort Collins institution. Healthy, simple food. Cool music venue, especially the back porch in summer. Family friendly. Been going there for decades, will continue for decades more.
Either very good or very bad. I went to Avogadro’s twice and had two opposite experiences. When I ordered the French Dip sandwich, it was very good, if a little more than I would have liked to have paid for a sandwich. However, at a different time when I ordered the pizza slice with ham and pineapple at just $2 a slice, well, let’s just say I got what I paid for. I took a few bites and then threw it in the trash. Not good at all.
Not Gluten Friendly. I used to love this restaurant, but when I developed a gluten intolerance they were less than accomodating. The waiter scoffed when I asked what items were gluten-free and stated that gluten-free restaurants were not financially viable. Clearly he is not an economic expert. I don’t expect an entire menu of food that I can eat, but at least a few diverse options. There are dozens of very successful restaurants in Fort Collins that have good gluten-free options. Patronize them instead. For breakfast, I recommend Snooze.
Hippie Haven. Great sandwiches and macram. Live poetry and music nights are fun.
