I used to love this place… until today. I have been barefoot for 6 and half years. I do this in solidarity with impoverished and trafficked children around the world. I’ve calculated that I’ve been in the Bowles Cafe for meetings with businesspeople over 75 times since I began my barefoot journey. I have a letter from the Director of the Health Department that states there is no health code violation or requirement for shoes in a restaurant (or any retail establishment). So there’s no excuse. In all these years I’ve been in some of the finest restaurants in Colorado, across America and around the world. I’ve met in the offices of high powered businesspeople as well with Governors, US Senators and Mayors and even from the Cabinet of the President of the Philippines. I have NEVER been thrown out of any place… until today at the Bowles Cafe. I was treated so rudely and with such disrespect from an uncaring, heartless waitress (I think she’s an owner), that it made the experience that much worse. I would NEVER go back there (even though I enjoyed the food) and even if they invited me. I wouldn’t eat there for free. There’s no excuse for the way I was treated, without so much as the courtesy of asking why I was barefoot to begin with. I can assure you, the bottom of my feet are cleaner (much cleaner) than the bottom of that waitress, the restaurant owners and everyone else’s shoes, as I scrub the bottom of my feet every day with a loofah and anti-bacterial soap, whereas all the germs and crud under peoples shoes are still there festering every day. It’s difficult enough staying obedient to something I believe God has called me to do in being barefoot every day in solidarity with the most abused children on earth. Then, to have an embarrassing, disheartening situation like I had this morning happen to me at a place I gave so much business to all these years… didn’t make me mad… it simply broke my heart.
We have gone several times. The waitstaff is great the dark haired hostess possibly owner is rude!! The food was so good when we first came but slowly went down hill. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone any more. Such a shame when a good family owned place losses its luster!!
The food is ok – our server was fantastic but the GM, or maybe she was the hostess, was so unbelievably rude to a sweet old woman that we decided to pay for her meal. I was excited to try out this place but immediately lost my appetite after watching them treat her that way. Save yourself the discomfort of watching them treat the elderly like they don’t have the money to pay for their pie.
Our new place since we moved. We eat breakfast here often! Pretty friendly service. Breakfast burrito is awesome! Bloody Mary’s are pretty good too.
Love this place. It is consistent and can actually poach an egg correctly. I usually get the crispy relllenos and eggs. They are wonderful. A few weeks ago I had the smothered hamburger. No surprise, it was delicious. I haven’t had a disappointing dish so far and I have had the gamut of the items for breakfast. Just recently I have begun to explore the lunch and dinner items. They also have chili to go as well as hand held burritos if you just want to grab and run. Just off of Wadsworth and Zang, which is slightly east of County Line. During the summer the patio by the fountain is a great place to sit and enjoy your meal.
Head waitress in the dark. I asked if corned beef was canned to our waitress. Head waitress chimed in behind her and said no. I ordered it. Tastes like dog food. Wtf. Canned. Get a clue
We have enjoyed eating here but lately we have noticed the wait staff is abrupt and slam plates down. And watch out if your hand is in the way when they pour coffee!
