Great beer!! BBQ was not like Texas but very good for the area. Service was vey good waitress knew the menu and made good recommendations!! I would definitely go back there!!
I like the smoked pork tacos I had and everyone I was with enjoyed their food as well. The key lime pie was perfectly tart. Liked the extensive beer menu as well. The service was fair. Our waiter was friendly but inattentive, didn’t comeback until we were done eating and never checked if anyone wanted another drink. Food good enough to give them another try.
Second time not a charm.. On our first visit, I had the ribs. Any bbq place lives & dies by its ribs, right? They were ok, nice spice, but pretty dry. Tonight we went to celebrate a birthday with 6 people. Friday night, about 60% of the tables seated and bar was busy, but not overcrowded. Drink service was ok, but food service was very slow. Had one app for the table (15 min) , and then waited for entrees. About 35 min after app we got 3 of the entrees. Another 10 & we got 3 more. Burger ordered well was mid rare at best, fried chicken very salty, sirloin chili was very good. Beef brisket BBQ was so fatty that only about 30% was edible. I know brisket can be fatty, but the chef has to balance it. It’ll be a while before we return.
I’ve now been several times and everything: brisket, fried chicken & waffles, hamburger, wings, chili, quail, and others, all have been very good! The burger is the best around. The beer selection is also impressive.
Upscale Barbecue. The new owners of the former Ash Creek Saloon location have updated the decor, and more importantly the menu, to create a casual and sophisticated restaurant that is a great asset to the Black Rock neighborhood. We tried several appetizers as well as the coffee rubbed spare ribs and roasted monkfish — all were excellent. We were especially pleased to see plenty of healthy, fresh vegetables on the menu, and enjoyed the shaved salad and grilled summer squash very much. All dishes were artfully presented. This is not the kind of place where you get huge portions and end up taking home half your meal.The service was friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable, which was especially impressive given that Walrus + Carpenter has been open less than a week. Our server (Armanda) was very helpful with menu and drink recommendations. She asked how we liked the sauce that came with our ribs, and when we said we found a bit too sweet she immediately went into the kitchen and got us another sauce that was spicier, tangier and much more to our liking.We also appreciated the beer selection — all from small breweries that were not familiar to us. We tried the Green Flash Imperial IPA (from California) — a wonderful, crisp light ale for a hot summer day. Highly recommended!
