Rushed!. We waited in crowded bar for table for 30 min, which we accepted as we thought we would have relaxing dinner. We didn’t! After apps and main courses, we were asked to remove to the bar ( we still had half of our wine glasses full) as another party was told they would be seated within 45 min. This, clearly, should not have been our problem and I addressed this with the manager who disagreed. We aren’t the type of people who dawdle at a table for hours and we had been seated for a hour and fifteen min when asked to vacate. This put a damper on our evening and we won’t be back. Very unprofessional in my opinion.
Great, Cozy Place. Martel is a small, but cozy restaurant that serves excellent food at reasonable prices. To compare, the prices were the same as Margaritaville in downtown Nashville, TN but with much better food! We started with Clamari as an appetizer…very tasty! I haven’t had calamari for many years, but this was excellent! For dinner, I had their daily special, grilled shrimp on a couscous salad…yummy! The balance of the shrimp and couscous made this a truly enjoyable dish. For dessert, we had the 3 mousse’s, dark chocolate, milk chocolate and white chocolate…all 3 were rich, smooth and absolutely delicious! Our server was great, friendly and informative. She took care of us the entire time we were there. The decor is comfortable without being pretentious. Overall a great dining experience, I plan on returning when I visit Southport again.
Great food abusive staff. Good food new chef presumably always found the paintings heavy- depressing .we are long time supporters of Pane Vino. staff finds better things to do than care for business . too much gossip about owners personal life by the bathrooms and old time waitress I overheard mimicking a guest – it was offensive! New Years eve we had a great meal but overheard personal tidbits of owner whom we know and like for years and comments about management .foods great, fun bar and friendly crowd change the staff -we will always come support the place.
STAY AWAY. Vermin behind the bar at this — or any restaurant — is simply not acceptable!
Fabulous. Loved Martel- a real French – NY feeling friendly informed staff very welcoming upon arrival a little wait but fun crowd to mingle with and great mix of music and bisto-ish decor ..comfortable and relaxing.Had drinks out side on the patio.. a cheese board was ample and a good variety and calamari a standout, steak was prepared perfectly with herb butter and the fries were excellent as was the lobster risotto lots of lobster and not heavy at all !New summer items Chicken salad with Sesame and the Crab Salad were standouts as was the flavorful Salmon and vegetables. Tthe staff was friendly and we didnt feel rushed like other places in town.Wine list has a great variety and prices are moderate and the bartenders make a quick drink with a smile never seemed stressed even though it was a very busy bar. Raspberry mousse special was decadent, the adult ice cream Sundae was sharable and fun and the Chocolate fondue with fruit was a hit with everyone.Beginning to end we had a great time and it was especially nice when everyone said goodbye on our way out -had some after dinner drinks at the bar …left my glasses and they ran out after us… loved it
Zorba. Overpriced bad food with an attitude. Save yourself some money go somewhere else it cant be this bad. The place should be out of business.
Not so much.. While the offerings are more interesting than many other places in the area, the execution is short of satisfying. Mushroom raviolis were actually crunchy they were so undercooked, as well as underseasoned. The mashed potatoes were fab, but the frisee salad was oily and the braised short ribs were bland. The service is random and scattered and the owner swept up our credit card without even making eye contact. The menu gave us a lot of hope, but in the end, we didn’t even bother with dessert.
