Astonishing restaurant with great foodIt was my friend bday and he threw a party here for me. It is quite an expansive restaurant but once in a while, its fine. Isnt it? We reached there around 6. It was still crowded. Interior was outstanding. I loved it and so was their bar counter. It was one well fine dining restaurant you can find in Hartford downtown. We did not get a seat inside and decided to sit outside. They have a good arrangement of seating out there as well. The server came to us and he informed us very well about their specialty and what we should have. We ordered Calamari, lamb rib chops and pan-fried scallops. Our server made sure the way we wanted our chops. Rare-medium and he said, he ll get it for us. I had best lamb chops here. Good food, music, and great service. Just it is bit expensive. Our bill was $140+ with tip for 2 people.Does not matter it was party

Hartford’s Capital Grille. Having dined often at the Capital Grille in Boston and Washington we are familiar with the menu, the wine list, the sophisticated ambiance and the high quality of the food in both cities and looked forward to the new Hartford offering. Unfortunately, the similarities begin and end with the menu and wine list. The Hartford franchise cannot hold a candle to either Boston or Washington. The new restaurant is noisy, has large dining rooms, an open kitchen off the bar and, with waiters clattering at the mid-room serving areas, is more reminiscent of an upscale cafeteria. As for the food, the fried calamari with hot peppers is excellent. The tomato, basil and mozzarella salad was served with winter, supermarket unripened tomatoes. Our friend enjoyed the swordfish… a special that night. The sliced filet mignon with wild mushrooms and cippollini onions, ordered to be cooked medium, was tough and looked and tasted suspiciously as though it had been cooked to rare in the kitchen and microwaved to medium. The center slice was pink… the rest of the slices well done, tasteless and virtually inedible. (I didn’t even ask for a doggie bag for our Fido). The fries and mashed potatoes didn’t pass muster but the spinach was good if you like a lot of garlic. For desert we shared a coconut cream pie that looked like a tart with a little coconut cream folded into a lot of whipped cream… not worthy of the calories. If you are looking for a classy $$$$$ restaurant with ambiance and great food this is not the place. To give it a C- is generous. I give it a D for big disappointment, not worthy of a return visit.
