  Mediocre. Headed into Avanti today for a quick meal – and to speak to them about catering a party for 50 kids and adults. Had heard that their pizza was good and it is about the only place in downtown that we hadn’t been to before. From the get go it was obvious that the wait staff didn’t care about their customers. Service was ultra slow even though the restaurant was pretty empty (it was about 4.30pm). After waiting a long time and finally asking if we could order, the waitress (who didn’t smile once) waited a good 10 minutes to take our order. We ordered pizza, a burger and baked cod. Pizza was just okay. There are way better pizza places in Mystic (try Pizzette or Mango – even Mystic Pizza is better than this place!!!), the burger was undercooked (rare instead of medium well) and the fish was bland and mushy. It didn’t taste fresh. Not getting fresh seafood in Mystic is a huge surprise and not one I would wish to repeat. The most disappointing aspect of this bland and lifeless restaurant, is the attitude of the staff. Service is atrocious and pretty much this place is the bottom of the pile when looking for a good meal in Mystic. It seems as though this place caters to a specific group of people (maybe the select group that posted positive reviews?) and I would hate to be a tourist heading into Avanti and thinking that all New Englanders are as rude and condescending as the staff at Avanti. The mediocre food didn’t make up for the terrible service. Needless to say we won’t be going back or having our party catered by them – time to give Illiano’s a call! No saving grace with this place – one to avoid at all costs!!!

  FANTASTIC!. Avantis is a restaurant where home made still exists. The marinara was outstanding, not the generic out of the can garbage you are fed elsewhere. I tried their chicken parmigiana dinner it was great. It wasn’t the generic pressed patty you get elsewhere. it was a fresh charbroiled piece of chicken. Much healthier than the frozen deep fried version. And if you love cheese it doesn’t get any better than this. The kids had the pizza, I tried a slice it was also very good. Although dimly lit the atmosphere was great and relaxing. The waitress, Erin was superb! The place looks very clean and kept up very well. The bathrooms were also extremely clean. We just moved to Masons Island, and we will definently be regulars at Avanti’s.

  We had read a few reviews about this place and they were all great. When we got there, the restaurant was dark and dank and had a strange odor. The kids were starving and it was late, so we stayed. We ordered a pizza for the kids and had chicken parm for us. The pizza was very boring, but kid friendly. The parm was sliced, grilled chicken that was not even breaded under a strange chunky red sauce and an unbelievable amount of cheese. To say the least, our experience was not good at all. The waitress was really nice, but as people walked in and out of the kitchen, I could see it definitely wasn’t the cleanest. Also, while we were waiting for our meals, one of the regulars was outside our window coughing up a lougie in a napkin for a few minutes. Ahhhhh….atmosphere!
