Giovanni’s sleeps with the fishes. After reading many reviews we went to Giovannis with high hopes. We wanted to like it…it is hidden away, it has been there for decades, it has lots of character, the people behind the counter are nice… but after eating there four times and trying several different things I am afraid we have decided it is really, really not good. Their biggest problem is that everything tastes dry and old. The food sits in hot plates all day and looks and worst of all tastes like mushy, dry leftovers. The veal was inedible and tough, the meatballs were mushy and the chicken parm is sub-par at best. In short, we do not recommend Giovannis. Espos, on the other hand, pretty good
The Best Kept Secret in Stamford.. I almost feel like Bob Woodward writing this review. I am afraid that some nameless city agency will arrive in black helicopters and drag me away before I break the secret of just how good the food is here. On a scale of 1 to 5, Giovanni’s is a 10.It is very easy to miss them. They are not on the beaten path, and you have to work to find them. Get out the GPS, because it is really worth it. The hot heroes here are some of the best I have ever tasted in my life. All the meatballs, chicken, eggplant, and veal cutlet are made daily. They put the kind of care into the preparation of their food that you only see in a small family enterprise. They obviously love what they do, because they do it so well.My personal favorite is the meatball hero. Once you have it at Giovanni’s, nothing else will ever come close.
