Dumb business and waitstaff. I wanted a nice evening of desserts and drinks at this place with my girlfriend and mother. I thought this tavern would do it. Restaurant was semi alive, 1 quarter of tables were being used. As we come in, they sat us by the fire, perhaps thinking we would order a large dinner. We explained we were after desserts and drinks only. It was evident the waiter did not like it, and very aggressively took our menus from us, to bring us the dessert one. When he came back, he distastefully passed us the menus and to this, I asked what was wrong. He mentioned that this table is reserved for people ordering more. I replied I could order a few items extra, but he still was not happy. His treatment again was incredibly unprofessional and arrogant. I asked to talk to manager/owner. He stood by his employee, even giving me an unwelcoming feeling. I decided to take off. We are never coming back again.

After I was stung by a wasp the second I sat down in the patio, and after the waitress mis-communicated the brunch drink specials, I confronted the owner who made it my fault for sitting outside, and told me that it wasnt HER fault for her incompetent wait staff. If those 2 things are not her responsibility, then what is?! There is a reason that the last time they received a positive Zagat rating was back in 2006. If leadership doesn’t take responsibility for their team & establishment, then how do you ever maintain excellence?

It’s authentic tavern/pub feel will transport you back in time and the sarcastic bartender will be sure to entertain you even if your date is not. See Stu Monday – Thursday from 4-7 for reasonable appetizers and special martinis. (My personal favorite is the banana split martini) This guy gives better relationship advice than Bravo’s Millionaire Matchmaker.
This place is horrible. The food came our lukewarm and service was slow. Despite making a complaint I was told by the owner that I had to much to drink instead of her addressing the problem. I shared a bottle of wine with 4 other adults. Clearly the owner does not know what customer service is. Would not recommend this restaurant if you are used to fine dining.
Comfort food. Nice tavern fare, especially the chicken pot pie. Historic building with traditional decor. As a nice plus, there are some wonderful paintings by local artists.
Brunch. We went for Fathers Day brunch, a mistake. The food was not very good, not cooked well and not good quality. The service was even worse, I counted 3 servers for the whole place. We had tough time getting the check & find an 18% tip added to bill….18%? For poor service? I usually tip 15 to 22% depending on service, but I guess they know how bad it is ……so they give you no choice! Don’t go for brunch! The only quality item was the chicken marsala, everything else was either poor quality or prepared poorly.
Consistent. The food is consistently good if not spectacular and the prices are reasonable. The staff is friendly and it is convenient to residents of North Stamford. Can be a little loud at times and sometimes a little chilly. Perfect for lunch or a light dinner.
