This seems like the only indian restaurant near my place and i was quite disappointed after tasting the food. I had ordered samosa, dosa and ras Malai. I guess all of them are so safe options that I wonder how can someone go wrong with these but food did not taste well . Even the Sambhar and chutney were not appealing.
At times, the common comfort food at home becomes your biggest weapon as a critic. You’ve literally been born with the dish and have been kind of involuntarily tasting it at every occasion or at your friends and relatives and thereby you have a self defined benchmark of the taste and smell. It is therefore very few special places that will trigger your senses and make you realize how special this common food is.Navaratna in Stamford just managed to deliver that punch today for us. Tired after a longish day of special memories …..we visited Stamford after 15 years….thus was just the place to satiate your senses and your palette. ..and how!!The Aloo Chat came out fresh, crunch and tangy. The mirchi bhaji or fritters made from green chillies were so spicy yet so flavorful that my wife’s tears were the happy ones! The masala dosa however took the taste up several notches. Crisp on the outside yet not too firm to shatter and break when pried with the fingers; the taste just right and the humble filling of potatoes and onions playing their tune not to be left far behind! The medu vada with its combo of sambhar and chutney was yet another authentic south indian dish with a taste like a chennai or a bangalore eatery would do justice to.A very wide selection of delectable south indian dishes and the portions are really value for money. The vettha kozhambu was the only reason why I did not give a 5 rating….the okra and the tamarind created a mish mash of tastes that let you confused between a puli kozhambu and an Ulli Theeyal. …However not to take any credit away from the eatery….it’s fresh air when compared to the nearby restaurants in Indian dominated arras of NYC and Edison Nj.
The Rava Dosa and sambar vada were extremely delicious. Authentic preparation with ghee and vegetables – they have decent portion size for the price. Three condiments/chutneys were served along – onion, peanut and coconut. I would visit again ..
