Back to Colonial Times!!. Jessop’s tavern is located on the the most quaint street with shops and park on the water plus much history in a short block walk…The Food…amazing..Best fish n chips and chicken pot pie on the east coast ( trust me..check my pics) Always a stop for us when we have to pass thru Delaware.
This is a pub that is situatated in a very historical town. So when you walk in you will be amused to see the workers dressed in period clothing. You won’t find any blaring TVs’ for this place is in character. I sat at the bar and I would have to say if you are a non-alcoholic, this would be a great 12 steps to deterioration. They have a handsome selection of crafted beers and top shelf spirits. As for food, its kind of pricey for what you get. My portions were kind of small, but a patron next to me had a sheppards pie that would make a fat man smile. I had Turkey chowder – it was savory yet a little salty. I really enjoyed my Chicken Pot Pie, though if you love crust you’ll be disappointed since it is only on the top. The pie was a small portion, but really good. This was a great excuse to have room for the dessert. I chose Bread Pudding and it was awesome! They were not stingy here – it was a 4×4 block of goodness. All in all I give this place 4 stars.
A place to feel unwelcome. We just went to Jessop’s after lovely day spent in Old New Castle. We saw four empty tables as we waited for twenty minutes to be seated (we were the only ones waiting). The place is filled with cranky workers and you feel more like an annoyance than a guest. Such a loathsome place that could be so very cool. Sadly, the bread pudding keeps me coming back.
The Pilgrim’s Feast is an incredible combination of Thanksgiving all served on a HUGE pewter charger. My wife and I have dined here a half a dozen times – the service is sometimes a bit slow but the ambiance of the space, the quality of the food & the freindliness of the servers far outweigh all of that. Thumbs up from me.
The shepards pie is all beef no lamb! The cobbler is canned pie filling with bisquick topping! Most of the food is pre packaged food from Sysco that’s just re-heated….come on let’s get back to basics and do some real home cooking. When you enter a lovely place like this you want period food with period cooking practices, not re-heat and serve. At least the Ale selection is great. Not enough though!!!!!
Consistanty good food. Shepard’s pie is a favorite. Sweet potato fries a must. The colonial costumes make it look like it is for tourists, but this is is the place all the locals eat.
