  I happened to be in Newark this evening, so I thought I’d try a Chinese takeout place that I hadn’t tried before. China King is in a strip mall on the northbound side of Marrows Road, although access from either direction shouldn’t be a problem as the road didn’t seem overly busy.The food is actually the best part about this Chinese takeout. Their kung po chicken is a lot spicier than kung po chicken from other Chinese takeouts in the area. The roast pork egg foo young, on the other hand, is only about average and pretty forgettable. So you win some, you lose some. Their fried rice, although not the best I’ve had, doesn’t suffer from yellow rice syndrome, at least.I thought service was pretty decent. The lady at the counter was nice, but with an underlying tone of no-nonsense efficiency. They skimp on takeout menus though. The only ones available are the laminated ones at the counter, so I could not take a paper menu home for reference. Prices were overall a bit higher than prices at Chinese takeouts closer to home, but I guess that’s to be expected for Newark. The biggest problem though was packaging. Styrofoam containers tend to leak if there’s gravy or oil and will break if you’re not careful. Also, they used staples to shut the styrofoam containers. Staples and food do not mix! It’s a problem because if a stray staple gets into the food and you swallow it, you’ll have a medical problem if it gets stuck in your digestive tract.

  The egg rolls greasy. Wonton soup was tasteless and the wontons chewy. Don’t waste your time.
