Today I had a delightful afternoon that could’ve been truly awful. I dropped my car off to get some maintenance before doing the long drive home at an awesome mechanic shop in Alachua called Gator Muffler and Complete Care. As usual, they took great care of my vehicle: timely, friendly, cost effective and most importantly, never do they try to convince me I need more work done because I am a young, fairly car-ignorant female. However, I had several things for them to work on so for the few hours they needed my car for, I walked a short distance to Main Street to get a bite to eat and read. But was then waylaid by the afternoon FL thunderstorms. I chose Main Street Pie Co. Being a fan of small town eateries and an Alachuan born and raised, I expected the good, inexpensive food and friendly service. What I did not expect was the warm-hearted, above and beyond behavior of the owner, her daughter, and the other waitress. Not only were they nonjudgmental of my desire for three salad dressings (so I could try them), ordering two desserts, and Star Wars reading material, but once they realized that I was semi-trapped at the establishment for hours due to the torrential down pour, they offered to give me a ride multiple times and ultimately let me borrow an umbrella. I was not the only one who was treated this way either, they talked at length with an older gentleman dining alone, and gave an out of town family all the local tips to the springs/tubing/dining/shopping and more. Normally I would simply give them more business, but I’m going home soon. These people deserve your money, go support local Alachua businesses and get a homemade cupcake or calzone.
