    For an adventurous foodie like myself, this place is a go-to. Don’t let the convenient store in the front half of the establishment deter you if you’re interested in great Mexican food. The serving portions are huge and the overall bill will be surprisingly low. Tender, never dry or overcooked chicken and shredded pork or steak fill their tacos/burritos/enchiladas and more. To top it off their red and green chili sauces add the perfect amount of heat to an already flavorful dish.

    What happened to my most favorite place. Not sure what happened to Las Tapatias but quality of all food went to sh*t. Maybe the management has changed because I couldn’t recognize any of the waitresses.My favorite item on the menu is burrito de california with tongue and tripe. The last three times i ordered it, it was fairly bland and the meat was burned with funky flavor. I came here several times week for years…very said.

    Best Mex in town!. I have worked in this area for the past ten years. Was very unhappy when Sierra Grille closed, but at that point had just found Las Tapatias. It is part grocery store, part restaurant. The food is better than the chains, including Chipolte, and they don’t charge for chips. Carne Asada is the bomb, as is Carnitas, combo plates, etc.

    Apologies for my previous glowing review.. Update 1/31/13 This place has gone completely to hell under new ownership. Its a shame too cause this used to be the best Mexican restaurant this side of Guadalajara. Now its not even the best Mexican on Baymeadows. First off, beer selection….the waitress looked at me like I had 3 heads when I asked for a Tecate. Finally after struggling with her I went to the cooler myself and found….no Tecate. Corona and Negro Modelo only. Are you kidding me?Next thing I noticed, aside from all the missing hot sauces that had been replaced by Louisiana Hot Sauce, was that the former outstanding menu had gotten the Gordon Ramsay treatment. My two favorites were no longer available, so I got the always reliable beef enchiladas and a chicken taco. When the food came it was a real letdown. The homemade enchilada sauce had been replaced by a generic canned version, and the beef and chicken were burnt to a crisp…. barely edible. I really wanted a chile relleno too but alas…not on the menu anymore. Checking out I found out the place had been sold recently and the original owner has moved on. I’m not going back, it was that bad.

    Dont do it, under new ownership and the food is terrible along with the menu being slashed in half, all the homemade sauces are gone, only Louisiana Hot sauce remains. Are you kidding me? Below is my original review which I hereby revoke.{The best Mexican food this side of Guadalajara.. Think I’m kidding, just give this place a try. Looks like a Mexican Walmart when you walk in the door but if you walk to the back of the store they have about 8 tables back there, excellent service, and a good selection of cold beer you can just help yourself too. Full menu with no ground beef, shaved beef only and you wont be disappointed. They even have chorizo tacos on two warm corn tortillas with cilantro. Amazing stuff. Everything on the menu is fantastic but my favorites are the beef enchiladas, chile verde, and the shrimp cocktail has to be tried to be believed. Homemade salsa and sauce for all tastes plus a good selection of off the shelf hot sauces. The fajitas are big enough to feed two people, and again they are the best I’ve ever had. In fact, everyone I’ve taken here says this is the best Mexican food they’ve ever had and that is just a stone cold fact. This place faces Old Baymeadows and is next to Vino’s Pizza. Check it out and put me on your Christmas card list.}

    Authentic!. After reading the review from SteveS my bf and I decided to give this place a try. Being new to the Jax area and loving mexican food we have tried many places to find great food. I have to say, this is one of the most authentic places we have found. I am a fajita person so I had to order the fajitas, they were great! I was so happy to have finally found a place with good fajitas. Don’t let the atmosphere scare you. It is a hole in the wall place but its good. Nothing fancy by any means. The prices are good. Our server was so, so. We never ran out of anything but she just was acting like she really did not want to be there. So it made it kind of awkward. I felt like we were bothering her if we needed anything. We will be back.

    HIDDEN GEM HERE. I have found a hidden gem for authentic Mexican cuisine. It’s tucked away inside the old Lee’s Chicken free-standing building right off of Baymeadows Rd in the parking lot of Winn Dixie; it’s caddy corner to Lemongrass. When you walk in, you have to go all the way to the left to reach the restaurant area. Up front is a complete Mexican/Latin grocery. There are about 6 tables near the kitchen and two flat screen TVs hang overhead playing Spanish music videos and soccer games! It’s brightly lit so you can see for yourself how clean it is and it is clean. Yes, the menu contains the standard Mexican themed food that you would find in most other restaurants; but they also offer unique more authentic dishes as their daily specials. I ordered a delicious soup, served in a huge bowl, which was full of spinach, string beans, okra, onions, large chunks of beef shanks, & the right touch of cilantro. I also noticed, but did not try cow tongue tacos and tripe. They really make their own salsa-it’s not from a jar. I love their salsa as it is not watery and contains plenty of diced fresh tomatoes. It has just the right amount of chili. The basket of tortilla chips are always served hot right out of the oven. This brings me to what you might consider negative….once you order your food, be prepared to wait a good 15min to get it even if they are not busy. There appears to be only one cook and he is making everything to order. I saw no heat lamps or any kind of warming station that you find at other restaurants. This is NOT fast food Mexican in my opinion. The quality and quantity are fantastic and worth every penny. Fear not, most lunch entrees are around $6.00 to $7.00. This is NOT La Napolera or El Potro, meaning you can have a conversation without shouting or having people bumping into your chair. In the few times I’ve dined there, nearly all the other customers are, indeed, Mexican. I mean no disrespect or to offend; I am strictly stating an observation. I take this as a good sign when one ethnic group patronizes that particular ethnic business. I’m quite sure this is a family owned/run business, and just the kind of place I love to support. For a nice non-rushed lunch, LasTapatias is highly recommended. The food is as good as any other competitor, if not better. No, it doesn’t have the ambiance like those chain types-you are eating inside of a grocery store, but you would come here for the food quality, low noise, and plenty of easy parking to boot! I will be back soon for lunch. For what it is, on a 5 star scale, I give it a solid 4! Bon Apptit!
