My girlfriend and I stumbled across Pagoda Chinese Restaurant when the initial place we wanted to go to was closed. The service was fantastic! We were seated immediately and tended to regularly. We started off with an order of cream cheese wontons. They were okay but very greasy. Being that we are vegetarian, we both ended up ordering veggie lomein. The lomein was delicious. Fresh crisp vegetables and good flavor. We will definitely be returning.
Good but greasy. My girlfriend, her sister an I went to pagoda Chinese last night the it has a great atmosphere an very relaxing. As for the food it was good but very greasy and hard veggies and also I was taking back by the waitress standing in front ask where was her tip other then that everything was good
Don’t bother. I went to Pagoda this past Friday afternoon, about 3 pm. My daughter and I were the only diners when we arrived, and the service was horrendous! When we first went in, the man there said several times no one was eating then (I should have taken the hint), but we had traveled a good distance on a recommendation, their hours showed they were open, and we were determined to dine. It took forever to get service When we did, we ordered four items, plus appetizers, because we wanted leftovers, which they questioned repeatedly. We got Vegetable Lo Mein, which my daughter liked, my all time fave, Broccoli with Garlic Sauce, which was the worst I’ve ever had–nothing like the usual sauce, this one was white, and it was so salty, I could not eat it. I asked them to redo it, telling them the problem, and it came back even saltier. We got a tofu vegetable dish (can you tell we are vegetarian?), and the tofu was sour, which worried me–tofu is sour when it has spoiled. My daughter wanted Egg Fu Yong, with no vegetables, but the man insisted it had to have vegetables (I’ve never seen it with veggies before). I asked him to just put onions, but he put in a mix my dd did not like. I thought perhaps it was a communication problem, as the woman made it clear she didn’t speak English, and the man barely spoke to us–until just before we were getting ready to leave, and a couple the man seemed familiar with came in. He smiled at them, was chatty, offered them things like crispy noodles and sauces (I had to ask 4 times to get one small bowl of noodles for my dd’s Egg Drop Soup). He brought them drink refills, took their order immediately, and had their food out to them in no time. We had to wait 25 minutes just to order!Needless to say, we won’t be returning. The food was bad enough, we didn’t even take home our huge amount of leftovers (except the lo mein), because we knew we wouldn’t want to eat it again. We’ll have to keep searching for good Chinese food in Jacksonville.
When was the last time this place was inspected? The bathroom was filthy, the table cloths were stained and the food bland. It seemed like it was family owned very friendly staff. Unfortunately we will not return.
HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. This place was AWFUL!!! The restaurant itself has a rancid, stale smell. The food was cold and had an awkward smell. Also, my friend found a piece of metal in her lunch and black crap in her fortune cookie. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You would get better food from Panda Express or any other take-out place.
Good food, what i didn’t like was if you get Coke or Sprite only sodas you can get it is $1.75 for a 12oz can… : (
Pagoda has an old world vibe, definitely not your corner take out place. The building reflects the restaurant’s name inside and out. If it really has been 30 years in business it sure smelled like it. Smelled like an old library when I went. Some could say the smell would affect the palette but I suggest to take it as part of the experience. The wonton soups was one of the best that I’ve had. It had good texture with fried noodles and strips of pork. I wish that’s all I had ordered. I wasn’t impressed with the main course. The sauce tasted more like gravy, the brocolli was a bit overcooked but the beef was a surprisingly good and was what held that dish from being a total disaster. The eggroll was overcooked with old oil. The lemonade was too sweet, probably made with hard water tap and too much sugar. So definitely go with coke or something else that canned or bottled. Service was great, the waitress was very sweet and understanding when I ordered a different beverage.
